Dear happy life,

Most of my life I've had aches and pains....  I often said I felt like I had been 'hit by a truck' or that I 'was coming down with something'.   But I seldom got sick with colds or flu or whatever.

Once I passed 55, however, I had serious pain in my joints, mostly due to severe osteoarthritis.   At this point (76) I should have knee and shoulder replacement surgery.  And surgery on my cervical spine (neck) as that pain is constant.

I delay joint replacement surgery and neck surgery, however, due to other complications, neuropathy, CAD, Immune Disorder, and worry about how I can withstand serious surgery and the recovery.

I did have back surgery two years ago, and that went well.  I had terrible pain from sciatica caused by trapped nerves in my lumbar spine.  The surgery relieved it completely.  It was surgery without 'hardware': no fusion, no screws, etc.

Right now I relieve pain with Low Dose Naltrexone (LDN), Gabapentin, and Wellbutrin, so I can sleep fairly well, which is key,

Regards,  Elaine

Hi  :)

My joint pain started with bots of 'tennis elbow'. The pain moves around. I haven't had tennis elbow for a while now but I get shoulder and back pain. I believe it's connective tissue inflammation rather than the actual joints. I also have osteoarthritis - and that IS the joints and it doesn't ease off.

Take care - Scottie  :)

I could have written Scottie?s post. I am currently in physical therapy and it is helping a lot. My pain also got worse after I was diagnosed with Hashimoto?s thyroiditis. I feel like there?s a connection and it?s not only the Sjogren?s.

Sometimes we can think we have joint pain and it can be the connective tissue of the tendons that are inflamed. I have had tennis elbow off and on for years plus the carpal tunnel and have had 3 surgeries and one to go. Repeat of the previous surgeries. Sjogrens causes inflammation in the tendons as does Hashimotos. Really, most of the autoimmune diseases will have tendon inflammation as a symptom.

The tendons from all over the body can be affected at one time or another and can really be miserable. Rest and mild heat help but it is hard to keep it at bay.

I am like Scottie and can attest o the osteoarthritis in the joints being something that can be very painful with swelling also and it has nothing to do with the autoimmune disease. Good luck. Irish

Hi Anna - I also have Hashimotos. I reckon the link is that SjS and Hashimotos are both autoimmune conditions. They seem to join forces!

take care - Scottie  :)
