Title: Scratched Cornea horrible dry eyes
Post by: Carolina on October 12, 2018, 03:46:02 PM
Dear Sjogren's Angels,

So I've had dry eyes for 16 years.  Now my eyes are much dryer, and a few days ago some how I scratched my cornea slightly.

So I've been very uncomfortable, for sure.

I have an RX for a prophylactic antibiotic, and am encouraged o use artificial ears (my computer fails o produce one key.  Sorry.  I am unable o show you my missing key! Can you guess!?)

So now I need eye drops.  I have some and wonder about superior brands.

Any ideas very welcome.  I'm learning o avoid my failing keyboard problem.

Apple will change my keyboard soon.

My eyes are very painful, and I'm very sad.

Progression of disease is always hard!

Regards, Elaine

I like your surreal post about having to use artificial ears. :)

I'm sorry you are having a painful time with your eyes at present.   I suppose we can't always avoid little bits of grit getting into our eyes and damaging the surface.   Presumably you use some kind of lubricant in your eyes at night?   I have posted before that when you wake up in the morning, it's a good idea to gently push the upper lid up over the eyeball, rather than let it open itself in the usual way, which is a bit more likely to cause an erosion in dry eyes.

I think you are probably doing all you can at present to mitigate the problem, and that it will heal in time.   But I agree these setbacks can be dispiriting.   Bon courage.

I am sorry to hear this Elaine. I have had this happen to me numerous times since my Sjogren?s diagnosis. I like they are tears preservative free files. They are a light drop but I always seem to be very healing to me. I also have TobraDex which is an antibiotic steroid combination ointment. A little of this will heal your eye out much faster than regular drops.

I hope you feel better soon!

Hi Elaine,

Sorry to hear about your misery.

When my cornea dries out or hurts badly, I insert a drop of Castor oil (pure, preservative free, etc). Hylo gel also does the trick but doesn't last very long and is rather expensive.

Thanks for sharing your little riddle, it was rather amusing to figure it out over a cup of T.

Lol  ;D
