I have been off of plaquenil for approximately 8 months. I did very well on it for over 6 years but was concerned about on going eye health problems. All toxicity tests were ok and the rhuemy allowed me to go off of it since I don't have a clear diagnosis. So now my relentless fatigue and mild joint pain has returned. Is there anything else that I could take besides plaquenil?
Thanks - Winnie
I use supplements after a bad experience with plaq. and Mtx. For arthritis I take curcumin and Bosweilia. Carrot Juice can help with pain as it gives your body what it needs to make endorphins. Tart Dark Cherries have been used for centuries to treat gout and arthritis. I take it in pill form for lower sugar.
I never took anything but the occasional week long course of prednisone for bad flares, which works wonderfully for me.
I am pretty familiar with natural supplements and a lot of it is trial and error with the individual. I have had meh reactions to turmeric personally, but for many it's fantastic.
I have had good luck with anti inflammatory enzymes off and on such as serrapeptase, but if I take it for too many months in a row I feel it makes my periods heavier. But it has been great for me in general when it comes to helping rashes.
Basically I love proteolytic /systemic enzymes off and on.
I have had very good luck too with evening primrose oil and rutin too.
I am a sucker for alternatives that are natural, there are so many out there though so I know there are things I never have tried that may work. And it is trial and error.

Didn't know about this one, thanks! Will look into that. :)
I have taken Plaquenil for 14 years, with no problems and considerable relief. About a year ago I added organic turmeric daily, with a rather dramatic change in inflammatory blood markers, they dropped to near normal after 20+ years of off the charts high.
I didn't notice much symptomatic improvement, but I did like the idea of lower CRP and ESR very much.
I had to stop using it about a month ago when I developed a lot of bruising and an increased tendency to bleeding from small cuts and abrasions, which all resolved in about 2 weeks, but I'm hesitant to try it again for obvious reasons.
Be cautious in whatever you take, because if it can have a positive effect, it can also have a negative one, unfortunate.
I could not tolerate Plaquenil, tried twice and it nearly killed me the second time.
Imuran has been a godsend.
Thanks for the responses. Not sure if I will take any supplements and don?t know if my doctor will prescribe anything else for me. I currently have some positive bloodwork for lupus which makes me concerned about not taking plaquenil to protect my organs.
