Title: Request for home-made and other remedies to help dry mouth
Post by: Spring on August 09, 2018, 07:37:26 AM
Hi all,

A friend (who has not been diagnosed with Sjogrens) has dry mouth now. If any of you have home-made recipes (I used to have one but have lost it) or good success with particular products, I would appreciate it if you would share it here.

Many thanks!

I recently found a product called GC Mouth Gel that I think works pretty well.  It's a bit pricey though.  I usually get it from my dentist for $9 a tube but just found it on Amazon for $8.

Full water bottle. Sip, swish then swallow. Repeat as needed.

I keep a small piece of chewing gum in my mouth nearly all the time.   You don't need to be actually chewing it, it still helps.   At night, Xylimelts.

Hi Araminta,

I've done the same for approx. 20 years but this year I noticed pain in the joint of the jaw. My dentist pointed out that chewing gum could cause osteoarthritis of the jaw joint, so now I try to limit my use.

Maybe it's better to give this Israeli invention a try, by which low dose electricity is applied to certain points on the gums which stimulates saliva flow. Can't remember what it's called, but it's here on the forum somewhere.

I take 100 mg ubiquinol daily.  It has significantly improved my dry mouth to the point where it doesn't impact me any more.

Maria - thank you for that information.   I'm guessing it's the chewing action rather than the gum itself that is the problem?   I do try not to chew too much, usually just keep the gum in one side of my mouth.   However I will look into the alternative you suggested.  Many thanks!
