Title: Trouble with digestion a part of SJS??
Post by: Deb 27 on July 09, 2018, 09:20:25 AM
So, I have noticed if I eat red meat at night, I h ave a hard time digesting it and it causes reflux. Do we have a problem making digestive enzymes ? It seems like we would since we don't have much saliva. Of course, most enzymes are made in the pancreas for digestion. I am going to ask for my doc to check my enzymes. On the other hand, if I take digestive enzymes, I get diarrhea.

I sleep best when I don't eat meat at all at night.

Red meat is difficult for anyone to digest. It gets even harder with no saliva (and age.) Digestive enzymes are not created equal.

I had to search and search to find one I tolerated.

I take Source Naturals "Essential Enzymes."

Hello Deb. Yes, it's quite typical for those with SjS to have digestive issues. My early stages included many digestive issues and significant weight loss because I was not absorbing nutrients.

I've read that as much as 70% of digestion happens in the mouth (or from saliva). I do know that I am able to take less of a PPI since I started taking something to promote saliva production). I also know that try as I might, I can't live without something like a PPI, does not matter how much I restrict my diet unless I only eat oatmeal.
