Title: What a Scary Diagnosis Taught Me About Wellness - Article
Post by: SjoGirl on June 22, 2018, 01:36:47 PM
This piece really spoke to me because I've tried everything from going GF to meditation to meds to exercise:

I have come to realize that life has ups and downs, not all of which are from SjS, and that I need to learn to manage my care in ways specific to me.

Hope this may prove of help to some of you.

SjoGirl, read the article and so related to it! I have done so much research and tried so many different approaches to "fixing" my health--all suggested by others on this giant web. I found all it did was feed my anxiety about what else could go wrong with me. I, too, have spent countless dollars trying so many supplements and different diets requiring different, expensive food items--none of which did anything for me. Now I just try to eat as clean as possible, tend to my thoughts and generally take care of myself. Too much information is a dangerous thing. Thank you for posting this!

So true, SjoGirl:

And folks are so frightened of 'chemicals' when every single thing on earth and in the universe is made up of chemicals, and our bodies are pure chemicals.

Fear is so easily stoked.  I meet so many here who are afraid of 'medications'  and 'drugs', as if diabetics could cure diabetes with diet alone (yes I know diet is important, but Type I diabetics need insulin), or if infections would go away with the right diet (and yet a simple sugar called D-Mannose has kept me infection free (from UTI's) for over 6 years).  The 'grain of truth' is often used to sell fear.

Fear immobilizes so often, and I see so many ads on the internet aimed at selling products to frightened people.

I didn't mean to scare away trejonina but when he claims thousands are cured of autoimmune diseases by taking antibiotics, I need more than the claim to convince me.  I am a skeptic at heart.  The 'chemical' hydrochloric acid is natural in our stomach, but we would never drink it or put it on our skin.  Knowledge is key.

And I know, as most of us do, that what works for you may not work for me, and in fact, what works for me NOW, may not work later, and may even cause me problems.

We are complex people, due to our Immune Disorders.  Fear is normal, but seldom helpful when we seek answers.
