Title: Evoxac question
Post by: kimberly64 on June 14, 2018, 10:05:35 AM
Has anyone had elevated liver enzymes due to this medication?  If so is it a concern or are your doctors just monitoring?

Kimberly64 - I have not had elevated liver enzymes with this medication but I do not take it daily, I take it when I am having issues with my salivary glands.  I hope others are able to chime in for you.

Hi, Kimberley,

I have taken Evoxac and now take Pilocarpine.  I've taken one or the other for 16 years, continuously.

I have my liver enzymes checked frequently because I also take 80 mg of Lipitor, which is notorious for liver damage.

I have NEVER had elevated liver enzymes.  I think my liver must be cast iron, because I used to have more than one drink a day in addition to the Lipitor and Evoxac/Pilocarpine.

I no longer have many drinks (just too old, and losing my sense of taste, as well), so my liver isn't bearing quite the burden, which is good.

Bear in mind, we are all different from the 'civilian population' (no Immune problems) and ALSO we are all different from each other.   So your experiences may be very different from mine.

And even my own experiences have changed over time.  I took Cymbalta with no problems and great relief from pain for over 6 years.  In the 7th year I developed serious side effects, which took a long time to relate to Cymbalta since who expects problems after 6 years?

Now, of course, I don't take Cymbalta.  But I still recommend it as a possible medication for both pain relief and depression.

Regards,  Elaine

I take Evoxac at night before bed and I have never had elevated liver enzymes.  I do take Milk Thistle, ALA and NAC  for my liver and I believe they help support my liver since I do have Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease.

I guess I should be worried then it is the only medication I take and Restasis and my ALP is elevated she did not say by how much but I was told that by an old doctor who never followed up on it three years ago.  I was scheduled for an ultrasound this week.  Quite concerned 😟

I have elevated liver enzymes on and off and nobody ever looked at the evoxac. Currently my levels are up a little up again and am having a liver ultrasound done again. Nothing is ever found though.

This helps ease my mind somewhat I have read medications cause this in some but my biggest fear is having to give up the only thing that has helped me.  Before Evoxac I had zero quality of life could not even eat without choking, loss a ton of weight and was in a depression beyond words,  thank you for responding  Tharrell!

Not so far and my doc did not monitor. I am being monitored for possible changes in blood work because I take Imuran.

I would highly doubt a problem with Evoxac. I have taken for eleven years and no one has mentioned monitoring for liver enzymes.  My rheumatologist is very thorough!
