Title: How to treat jaw bone infection
Post by: Maria3667 on May 20, 2018, 02:42:34 AM
Hi everyone,

The toothache I thought I was experiencing turned out to be an infection on top of a root canal. The majority of the root is already dead and has been filled in. The scan revealed the jaw bone is infected. An oral fistula has formed and - besides the nasty taste - keeps infecting my gums over and over again.

Lately, I've been under the weather. Wake up with a headache, have facial pain, earache, neck pain, fever on and off...

I was stunned by my dentist's reaction: he set up a referral to an endodontist in 1 month's time (!). "If you want antibiotics you should go to your GP," he concluded. No advice on how to treat this thing whatsoever! Is this the normal course of action?

What can I do in the meantime? Eat ibuprofen for a whole month?

Hi Maria,

Sorry to hear this.

Jaw infection should be treated ASAP else there is a risk that it can spread to brain. So i would request you to treat this as emergency and meet the endodontist.

I totally agree with happylife, it's important you act now.   You need to be on antibiotics until this is sorted out.

Go get your antibiotics ASAP.

I have an infection that started after I had a tooth pulled. The dentist refused to see me again. I have been using a set of tones "Head, Pneumonia, tooth" to treat common tooth and sinus infections. I have been using the tones as an antibiotic. I quit too soon and it came back with a vengeance so now that it is deep I have to treat more frequently. I am gaining on it but my sessions take time.

I have problems getting into the clinic (PTSD) under my new health care plan. I am hoping for regular antibiotics next week.

Thanks for your replies.

I have contemplated the use of AB, but from what I've read it's questionable if they'll be effective due to limited blood flow inside the bone. Surgery would be the better option as it can get to the effected area directly.

That being said, I'll contact my GP tomorrow (it's a bank holiday here). In the meantime I'll swish with hydrogen peroxide couple of times a day. Today I'm feeling slightly better.

This can cause white tongue coating.....if this happens you can take probiotic drink for 10 days to restore good gut bacteria.
