So yesterday I went into the VA and had 3 teeth removed. When the sedation kicked in my blood pressure dropped from 170 to 140. It was hard not having anything to sip before surgery.
Blood coated my mouth afterward which made it less dry. The sublingual glands on each side really hurt. They are still tender at 3am.
Surgery was at 8:30am and done by 9am. I took my first Oxy at 3pm. I have been doing Reiki for swelling, pain and healing. My mouth is still tender but swelling is down.
When I first got Sjogren's I was wondering what it would be like to have my teeth pulled. Now I know. It was not as bad as my anxiety led me to believe. One root was really deep and the tooth shattered while being pulled. the other two were extremely decayed and possibly infected.
Food choices for the next few days will be various forms of mush and liquid.
Once healed I go back to be fitted with bridges so I may be able to chew again. I have been cutting food up as one would for a baby.
All in all, I am glad it went so well. As usual, the anxiety made things seem worse than the truely were. If you face this, I hope it goes well for you.
Glad it wasn't as bad as you expected. It sounds as though it just had to be done. I know what you mean about having a dry mouth at the dentist's, especially when they hook something into your mouth to remove any non-existent saliva!
I would really recommend chewing gum for you, once you've recovered. Not only does it help with the dry mouth, but it also neutralises the acid that causes tooth decay. :)
Joe, I am glad to hear that your surgery went well. Now you only need to concentrate on healing. I bet that wife of yours will be able to whip up some awesome things for you to eat - even if they are mushy!
You are so right about anxiety. It can be caused by forgetting to live in the moment and worrying about the unknown future.
Good healing, Joe.
araminta, Thanks for the suggestion. I quit chewing gum about 45 years ago when it started to create issues with my dental work. Cinnamon, Spearmint, Doublemint and Juicy Fruit were my favorites.
Carebear, Jan is going to Reno, NV for the next week for national Bowling tournament. She is concerned that the temps are supposed to be in the 90's.
I have soup, yogurt, and Angel Food cake. She has prepared over cooked Oat meal and Macaroni and cheese. I may make a overcooked past meal myself. (I have not cooked in over 4 decades).
Joe, you did a good job cooking after having a four decade break! Glad to hear you are enjoying Angel Food cake. I loved the confetti type when I was a kid.
Good luck to Jan in that tournament, and tell her to stay cool.
Thanks. I drop her off just before 8 for her shuttle bus. I hope to use the toneations today to promote healing and reduce pain. I have a bottle of carrot juice so my body can create more endorphins.
The swelling is going down and my glands are feeling better. I have been doing Reiki quite a bit to help.
I am so glad your mouth is slowly on the mends. I always wondered about the teeth extraction. Dentist said I need about 10,000 dollars worth of work and I am just wondering if it is worth getting all these crowns when in the end I may have to go to dentures. I told him one tooth at a time even though I know there is a lot of decay. You teach us so much on this forum. Carrot juice not my favorite but I understand the richness of what it brings to our bodies. May the next 24 hours relieve you of all the pain in your mouth
Thank you angeldancer. I do not know how many drill and fills, and how many caps I have had or how much all of that has cost. I have about 16 teeth left. Most have had work. I am hoping that the swelling in one tooth will go down. It is under my nose. The bone may have broken. The root was very deep. The swelling on the others is almost gone. The tones have helped with the pain.
Hope you don't take too long to heal Joe.
I had 3 teeth removed last year.
Didn't stop bleeding until about 8 pm having had teeth pulled 10-11 am.
The bottom front tooth has been replaced with a false tooth which I don't seem to be able to chew on well. Didn't want a hole at the front.
Where the 2 teeth were removed either side of my mouth the gums are still tender.
Trying not to get replacement teeth.
Wanting the root canal tooth removed.
The cap is fractured, has caused me trouble right from the beginning.
I wanted the tooth removed, but after pain going up into my head had to go along with the dentist's choice of root canal.
Not happy!!!!
I eat soft foods, lots of gravy :)
