Hello everyone. Hope you are all doing well.
I?ve been having a strange symptom lately and asked my rheumatologist about it. The top layer of my finger nails has been peeling off, kind of like onion layers, but only on my fingernails and only on 3 of them. Not all my fingers. And my hair has been falling out again. When I asked him he said it?s inflammation in the body. Does anyone else experience this? And what works for you? I paint my nails to hide it but it seems that?s a waste of time as the paint just peels off them as well
Hi Kristina, I take biotin 2X a day, 10,000 mg. It has made a difference, although my nails & hair are not back to 'healthy' condition. I hope your symptoms are relieved, soon.
This dang disease.

Have you had your thyroid checked? Many people with autoimmune disease eventually have thyroid issues and that can raise havoc with nails and hair. Good luck. Irish
Thanks Trisha. I will try it. I have my thyroid checked often because of my heart issues but that?s very true Irish. Thank you both.
Hi :)
Irish beat me to it. One of my most reliable symprtoms for a thyroid meds adjustment is flaking nails. Before diagnoses for Hashimoto's Thyroiditis (underactive and autoimmune) my nails flaked horribly. just like you describe. Other symptoms were fatigue, depression and the worst brain-fog - oh and weight gain.
Some of that overlaps with SjS - but the nail flaking, in my case, is thyroid specific.
Take care - Scottie :)
