Hello,
Has anyone used Hylauronic Acid for their joint pain with success? I think mine is more tendon pain but have read that HA is really good for joints plus skin and nails.
Thanks in advance.

dear dry2010,
I see that there are three ways to use Hyaluronic Acid: one as an injection into an arthritic joint, a second one as an application to dry skin to improve dryness and appearance, and a third one as a dose taken orally to improve dry skin and skin appearance.
Here is what the Arthritis Foundation has to say about injections:

Here is a research article about ingesting HA:

Here is a research article about applying HA to the skin.

Based on my reading, I have ordered HA to apply to my skin, which has become very very dry as I am now 76. My understanding is that the HA should be applied to damp skin and then covered with a moisturizing cream, to obtain the greatest results.
I'll let you know how it goes for me. Thanks for posting this.

Hi Dry,
Yes...I've had hyaluronic "acid" injection. My ortho called it a gel shot. Last summer I "missed" a step...came down hard on my left foot...and my knee hurt. A lot. I was so proud I had maintained upright position. No thoughts about it hurting. I mean, I thought it would go away. Then my granddaughter and I took a trip...and I was limited..but kept up. Anyway, before we had gone, I went to the "knee" ortho who x-rayed it and announced my knee wasn't "broken". Really, I wanted to hit him. So nothing. About six weeks later I was planning another trip..went to another ortho in the same practice...and this guy was on it! He asked if i'd been sent to PT. I told him I was almost escorted to the door! He was nice but I could tell he was irritated with the colleague. Ordered an MRI. After results, he said I'd "jammed" it..and was lucky...I was NOT bone on bone. He offered me a cortisone shot or a "gel" shot. I ordered the gel. It has helped..but not 100%. I will say he told me I could repeat every month. I've not gone back..and that was late September. Have other fish to fry right now..but will have another (and another). :)
This ortho was cute: he said, you want some on your finger to put on your face? I took it. It did feel nice!
Good luck.

I have not used it to my joints but I have to my face.
It's a clear gel and really plumps up the skin on your face.
I use a prescription brand called Hylira.

Hi Dry,
Just my 2 cents worth....
Two years ago I tried 20 mg oral hyaluronic acid on a daily basis to stave off wrinkles. First of all, I noticed shorter sleep and then came a sense of unease, similar to anxiety AND too boot more difficulty reaching the 'big O'.
The latter might seem like a far fetched conclusion, but just think about it for a second or two... These side effects seem to resemble supplementing with estrogen. So maybe it IS true - hyaluronic acid does raise estrogen (and thus SHBG twarthing libido)? MEN on hyaluronic acid sometimes complain of erection problems (I read on forums).
So my advice is to be very cautious with this supplement as our hormones are already out of sync. Excess estrogen might aggravate typical Sjogren's symptoms.
i have taken hyaluronic acid and i did not have any side effects even if im the queen of side effects usually... on the contrary i had wonderful results with my skin. unfortunately its terrible for my stomach...( hyaluronic ACID)
I bought some to try but now I'm not so sure after read some of the post. I use Cerave lotion on my body it has hylauronic acid it seems to take care of my skin well. Thanks for the input I think for now I will put it on a shelf.
Thanks,
