After yrs of being told by doctors my thyroid is normal looks like I was right. I was diagnosed with nonspecific autoimmune ( sjogrens sicca but no markers) at age 25. I'm 36 now. I'm trying to get pregnant but no luck so far. My gyn thought he felt a nodule so sent me for ultrasound. No nodules was seen but thyroid is enlarged and highly suggestive of hashimotos. I contacted my endrocrinologist who previously maintained my levels were normal. While it sucks that I have another autoimmune maybe with medication I can finally feel better. Just wanted to vent as so often we are told by doctors that things are fine and made to think we are just depressed etc and yet there are actually really disease processes at work.
My thyroid is "low normal." Most endos would NOT do a thing for me, I am sure. (but I never had to go to one)... My GP picked up on it and I'm taking 1/2 pill of Nature Throid. I am doing great!
Good luck with this!
I was told the same fairytale over a decade whilst I had all the hallmark symptoms such as being exhausted, feeling extremely cold and sleeping up to 16 hours a day !
It all came to a head when I went to a naturopath who preformed at 24 hours urine test. That showed not only was production of T4 too low, also the conversion to T3 wasn't enough. He started me on natural thyroid hormones and within days I felt heaps better.
Blood tests always showed I was 'within normal range' (hate that phrase). Hashimoto's also came back normal. My personal belief is Sjogren's can mask abnormal thyroid levels. Don't let it ruin your life and seek out a second opinion even if it is in the 'alternative medical circuit'. Sometimes it's a life saving decision...
I think too there is a lot more that we endure due to things going on with our thyroid than we ever know.
I was in my late 20's when a regular gp said mine was just a little low. Later I seen a endocrinologist, and when I seen her and told her what he said, she said that is like being told we are just a little pregnant.
I don't have an endocrinologist to see now, and I am 64, but I was told a couple of years ago I had nodules on each side of my thyroid.
I am on 50 mc per day, but feel I need to find someone to find out what I need, and what is going on with my enlarged nodules.
Just my input.

Hi I have precisely the opposite issue, my thyroid has been tested in the past, but I'm not sure how often my TSH has been tested (I plan to pull out my old records tonight).
I was just diagnosed with subclinical hyperthyrodism -- due to low TSH, but normal T4 -- and was told by my PCP that we will just watch it. I am not so sure I am comfortable with that option since my eldest sister has Graves Disease. I found this site which may provide some useful information for you: http://endocrinediseases.org/thyroid/hyperthyroidism.shtml
I see my rheumy in a week and am going to ask about testing. Keep us posted and be strong, unfortunately we must be our own advocates.
I too have always suspected thyroid issues but my tests come back
just normal: TSH, free T3, free T4, utrasound
Any other tests that can detect this?

This is a good site on Thyroid craziness and it provides good guidelines on testing to get for diagnosis. A lot of doctors are using tests from 30 years ago instead of newer tests that are a lot more helpful for diagnosing thyroid issues.
Hope this helps.
