Title: new and feeling overwhelmed
Post by: tspark on February 25, 2018, 08:35:14 AM
Hi everyone,
I have been lurking for a few months and thought it was time to join.  I was diagnosed in October last year and have been handling things fairly well. It has been helpful to check in on the board and find others who are dealing with sjogrens and read your stories.  Thank you.
I am just feeling overwhelmed this weekend with the new diagnosis of Tennis Elbow.  It is causing me more problems that the issues I have tackled so far.  It feels overwhelming to have to use two hands to pick up my glass of tea.
I don't want to be a Debbie Downer as that is not my usual outlook.  I have been an active Girl Scout leader and am getting ready to run a cookie booth outside Walmart for my troop and I can't even lift a case of cookies from my car.
I guess I want to know if Tennis Elbow comes and goes or if it remains at this level.  What has you experience been?

Welcome to the board, tspark. Sorry to hear about your recent diagnosis. I haven't had tennis elbow, so no input to provide on that. I can understand how it could make you feel overwhelmed, though. Having difficulty with or not being able to perform a basic function is distressing.

Hopefully someone with personal experience will come along soon and have good news for you.

I will welcome you to the forum. I can not say about Tennis Elbow. Have your talked to your MD? Are you taking any supplements or meds?

I have a Sci-Fi convention to Shepard March 2-4. I will use my CBD oil to help me power through.

Thanks for the Welcome.
I have talked to my PCP and the best she does is listen and perscribe. I found that there are exercises I can do to help with Tennis Elbow so I will work on those.
I am exploring supplements, but don't have any sources for info.  I like essential oils and use frankincense everyday as well as On Guard, an overall health booster.  I haven't had a cold in two years.  I am currently taking magnesium, vit D, Omega 3, probiotic and CoQ10.

Joe, How does the CBD benefit you?

I had tennis elbow many years ago after carrying something that was too heavy.   It went on for several months and then just went away.   I think the main thing is not to strain it, be gentle with it so that it can gradually heal.

Welcome, tspark.

A few years back, there was an extensive discussion of the 'problems' those of us with Sjogren's have experienced with ligaments and tendons.

The consensus is that in all probability the mechanism that attacks and damages our moisture system also damages our ligaments.

I suffered two torn meniscus problems with my knees, and endless plantar's fasciitis, and others have reported ankle and elbow problems related to tendons.

"Sjögren's syndrome is also a rheumatic disease, which primarily affect:

Joints.
Tendons.
Ligaments.
Bones.
Muscles."

Hope this helps.

Is on guard a capsule of essential oils... it sound familiar. i bet the vit D and probiotic are helping your immune system as well! Do you mind sharing what forms of each you take? I tend to cycle probiotics (I like VSL#3 best), take DHA and EPA omega-3, vitamin D3, and a water and fat-soluble CoQ10 for better absorption.

I have had tennis elbow, frozen shoulder, Achilles? tendon, trigger thumb and crepitus in my knees. All are related to Sjogren?s best I could do was address each as they happened with physical therapy they eventually work themselves out. I have only done prednisone for 2 months once in the begging to get things calmed down while Plaquenil kicked in.
I took a break from Plaquenil recently bad idea started back on recently not noticing any relief yet hoping soon when you don?t think it?s working believe me it is.

For the On Guard, it is the oil in a roller bottle that I roll onto the bottom of my feet everyday.  It has frankincense in it as well.  I have another roller bottle that has lemongrass and deep blue that I use daily.  I call that my "feet relief" roller.  Deep Blue is a mixture of oil that include peppermint and menthol that help give me relief from plantar faciitis.  I do not ingest very many of the essential oils.
The rest are just supplements that i picked up  in the store.  Nothing special,  I haven't done research yet.  Though I  need to learn more about magnesium specifically.

Thank you everyone for the words of encouragement and for sharing your experience.  I will take it  one issue at at time.

I did a remodeling project and got tennis elbow in both arms years ago and it became an on again off again issue. The first time it was really painful and doc put me on Indocin which is a strong anti-inflammatory. Over the years I treated myself with aleve OTC anti-inflammatory.

The other thing I did which really controlled the tennis elbow was the arm braces you get at Walmart. I wore them anytime I gardened, painted or did any project and it saved me from a lot of misery. Good luck Irish
