Hi all
I retired from work on Thursday 8th Feb.
Now I can have a sleep when my eyes get too much for me :)
Now doubt it'll take a while to feel like I'm on more than holidays.
Feeling relieved & happy.
Take care.

I have been retired now for going on 15 years. The years have gone so fast. I haven't gotten nearly as many things done as I wanted to due to the blessed autoimmune diseases we have. But, I have to admit that not having to work was a blessing cause I had worked sick for so many years. Being able to stay home when the blizzards hit is really a blessing. I am one of those people who loves a good snow storm and didn't mind driving to work, but the stress of dealing with bad weather and other issues seems to increase over the years.
Hope that you can rest and enjoy the days more and be able to do some of the things you haven't been able to do over the years. Irish
Yes, I'll enjoy life more and get things done slowly.
Not having to go to work is a blessing in itself.
My diagnosing GP was really happy I made the decision to leave office work.
Take good care of yourselves all you good people.
Thank you again for sharing in my 'joyfulness'.

Congratulations, Lotus!
I retired at age 58, which was 18 years ago (wow).
I had been treated for severe CAD, and had one of those years where I was rolled into the surgical suite 6 times in 10 months. So I wanted some stress out of my life.
I am one of those fortunate people who didn't develop major Immune Disorder related problems until age 60. And even then the Immune Disorders didn't really begin to disable me until about age 66-67.
So I had a very enjoyable retirement for several years, active, hosting grandchildren for 6 weeks at a time, volunteering, bridge, book clubs, etc.
One of the biggest benefits was NEVER shopping on the weekends, waking up when I wanted to (most of the time), and 'feeling rested' rather than 'rushed'.
You will find great pleasure in retirement.
Hugs, Elaine
Congratulations to you Lotus!!!!! You sound very content with your decision too. I hope you see some improvements in your health and get to enjoy life at an easier pace!!!
Congratulations!! I hope you will begin to feel better and better!!
I was forced into early retirement at age 43, so I've been retired a long time. The loss of income has been pretty devastating at times.
We recently received a big financial break and we are so grateful. I hope you will do OK on the financial end.
Congratulations Lotus1! So happy for you :)

Yes, finance is always a concern.
With hubby on a disability pension, we are working on the financial part.
I'm thankful I can retire and enjoy life more.
So enjoying not racing off to work and the days are flying by so far.
My dry eyes love more sleep :)
I only have very limited time on the computer, great!

I'm happy you are already SEEING positive results! :)
Hi all, I'm still here!
Thank you for your good wishes.
I'm enjoying life much more, the days fly by.
Still looking for a solution for dry eyes.
Using hexane free castor oil at night (cheaper) which is supposed to help during the day.
I find I still need eye drops.
I've been playing "nurse" the last few months.
Hubby had a heart attack at end of July (1 stent put in).
Then end of August the heart med caused an unknown stomach ulcer to bleed so he was in hospital again with a bleeding duodenal stomach ulcer.
Released him while still bleeding so had to readmit him to hospital (drama).
At the end of September he had a nasty gastro virus.
All this didn't help his adrenal fatigue & depression.
He is now improving each day & "living" again.
Life is now getting back to 'normal'.
I'm so glad I wasn't working so I could care for hubby full time.
Now I'm enjoying retirement again!
Do take good care of yourselves as best you can.

Dear Lotus1,
My heart goes out to you. Sometimes retirement is peaceful, and sometimes filled with drama.
I had three angioplasties and two stents placed in 1999, which is what prompted my early retirement all those years ago.
And yes, I'm so glad you could help your hubby. And yes, one health crisis often cascades into a series of horrible 'events'. Now I sincerely hope you and your hubby are healthier and happier than ever.
I always say: "It's always something, and then it's something else." That is life, of course.
However, we find joy where we can, and do what we must when needed.
Regards, Elaine
Thank you for your kind words Elaine.
So sorry to hear of the drama that prompted your early retirement.
Hope you are doing ok now.
Next opthalmologist appointment I'm going to ask dr if he will support me in applying for the disability pension since nothing has worked satisfactorarily for working the last 18 yrs of so.
Opthal says the bottoms of my eyes are the worst, but hey step in my shoes dr.
Centre Link advised me a pension will only be approved if recommended by an opthalmologist, not my diagnosing GP.
See how things go.
Waiting for an appointment date.
I'm still enjoying retirement, the days fly by.
It is so great to be able to do food shopping drying out my eyes in the air con then come home for a sleep for relief.
I don't need to be on the computer, in a dry air con room with bright lights.
Just doing things as I need and want to has made such a difference.
Guess the stress is gone!
Yes, if it's not one thing it's another.
I call it 'body maintainence' & everyone has something.
Summer is coming so I'm pleased.
I'm more dry in winter it seems.
Stay as well as possible and enjoy life.
Regards
Lotus1
Congratulations Lotus, hope the best for you!
