Just starting the diagnosis process, I was referred to an internist by my OBGYN. Post menopausal woman, 56, extreme vaginal dryness for 5+ years, dry lips, rarely sweat (though competitive athlete), dry mouth started in November, much worse beginning of December, and then dry eyes started end of December. I also have minor arthritis, symptoms reduced greatly by taking turmeric. My question is can an internist diagnose sjogren's, or am I going to be referred to another specialist? I think you are going to need another specialist - probably a rheumatologist.
Sometimes it can take a while to get a definitive diagnoses and unfortunately a lot of menopause symptoms and Sjogren's symptoms, overlap.
The main thing is to get treatment for the symptoms you are suffering to alleviate them as much as possible. (Diagnoses or not)
I got diagnosed with Sjogren's shortly after menopause about 12 years ago now.

An internist can offer a tentative diagnosis, if they are familiar with testing for autoimmune diseases. Mine did that for me. She did then send me to a rheumy, who confirmed it.
