Title: The price of Evoxac is unbelievable!!!!
Post by: ohiolady on January 16, 2018, 06:50:00 PM
I have a $2000.00 deductible that I have to meet every year. Today I called to get a refill on my Evoxac and found out the cost is $1,765 for a 90 day supply. Our deductible goes toward medical as well as prescription. Last year Evoxac was $1500.00. Evoxac is an old drug.  What in the world is going on? I cannot take the generic version as I ended up having sores in my mouth because it just didn't work. But, with that said, it was only a few hundred dollars cheaper. I just don't understand.

I am grateful that we can pay for it but this just seems wrong to me. Anyone else have to pay this much?

I am not really sure but know that there are a lot of greedy people in the world and many of them are pharmaceutical manufacturers.

That is an obscene charge for that drug and I wonder if there is some place to complain. Maybe the state attorneys office. I have had to pay about 225$ for an albuterol inhaler recently and 150$ for Estrace vag. estrogen cream. When hospitalized my inhalers were filled and they were both about 380$ each. Before I was discharged the nurse came and told me that for some reason the inhalers would not be charged to me. Maybe they put the on the insurance claim.

Something has to stop this as we will have to stop filling some of our meds periodically in order to survive this mess. Good luck. Irish

Dear Anna, while my RX for Pilocarpine (generic Salagen) isn't nearly so expensive as your cost for Evoxac, the price is many times higher than for ANY other drug that I take.   I have no idea why, since pilocarpine is the generic of a medication that has been around for quite a while.

I'm sorry you have such a high price to pay.   It is hard enough to need a medication, but it is so hard when the cost adds to our pain.

Do they make a Canadian version?

I am in Florida and a lot of people import Canadian versions of medicines because they are so much cheaper.

Interesting thought, Kristian,

I have purchased a medication for my cats from Canada, but never anything for myself.

I'll look into it.

Olady,

I called my mail-order to pay for my Plaquenil today. I too require brand. I was shocked when the pharmacy told me it would be almost $1100.00 for brand. What??!!
I told my doc that I will be doing a quick taper off. I refuse to pay that much for a drug. I am still wondering if it is the culprit for my hair continuing to fall out in large chunks each morning.

I might have purchased it if I were not paying for my sub Q infusions (close to $2000) every 2 weeks. This may be worthy of a blog rant.  :-\

The subject line of the note I sent my doctor said: Patient Presents With Shock! Haha..true story.

Take Care.

Hi everyone and thanks for your replies.  I get Domperidone from Canada and plan on calling the pharmacy tomorrow.  I will let you know what they say.
The only thing is once my deductible is met my insurance pays 80%.

For anyone reading this, just throwing this out there for the generic price I pay (though OP said they cannot take the generic).  I don't have prescription coverage, so I use the GoodRx app (free app you can download on your phone) and pay $109 per month (3x per day 30mg capsules) at Walgreens for cevimeline.

For those taking Salagen:
A trick revealed to me by a very experienced ENT:
There are eye drops with the same active ingredient of Pilocarpine in them.
They are much cheaper than Salagen pills.
You use the dropper and put a few drops in water and drink it. Same effect as Salagen.
You can also just swish a few drops in your mouth to get saliva.
