Title: Has anyone had an elevated TSH after taking a Medrol dose pack?
Post by: ohiolady on January 07, 2018, 08:19:07 AM
I took a Medrol dose pack about 2 months ago for tennis elbow.   since then I have been experiencing fatigue, dull headaches, increase joint pain and memory issues. the memory issues are really bothering me a lot and are very scary to me. I had my TSH level checked last week and see my endocrinologist tomorrow. My question is has anyone experienced an increase in TSH after a Medrol dose pack and do these symptoms sound like thyroid issues? I do feel better when my TSH is around 1

Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks'
Anna

I am on steroids all the time and cant say that I can tell any difference in my TSH. I have been hypothyroid since 1989 and I take daily prednisone for over 10 years and doing a taper dose now.

I can't explain the hypothyroid symptoms that you are having, but it should be known that these things happen off and on with the thyroid patients. Most likely has no relation to the Medrol pack. That was for 6 days, right?.. I have taken them off and on over the years with no change in my TSH. The doctor should be able to answer your questions. Good luck. irish

P.S. I just reread your post and noticed you took the Medrol for tennis elbow which is a tendon inflammation. Tendon inflammation is common in hypothyroid and Sjogrens and I would bet you were just in a flare that ended up affecting your thyroid function. I have had this happen also.

Thanks so much, Irish.  I think you are right. I also wondered if I am just in a Sjogren's flare.  We will see if my TSH is elevated and go from there.  My TSH does fluctuate and meds have to be adjusted accordingly.  I have had a lot of company and holiday stress.   I am planning on hibernating the month of January.  Hopefully, that in itself will do a world of good. I will let you know tomorrow if my thyroid is off.

Thanks so much for taking the time to respond.  How are you these days?

Irish,

I  wanted to let you know my endocrinologist adjusted my thyroid meds to bring me closer to a TSH level of 1.0.  He felt that moving and holiday stress may be causing a flare of Sjogrens.  He will see me back in seven weeks and my plan is to hibernate the month of January.

Thanks again for responding.
