Title: Fish oil, how many of you still take it?
Post by: ohiolady on December 27, 2017, 06:18:42 AM
how many of you still take fish oil? I took it for 10 years and for the last year so I have not been very faithful at taking it. It occurred to me that my pain level has been much worse since I stopped. My question is how many of you feel that it helps with arthritic and muscle pain?

Thanks!

Anna

Dear Anna,

Wow, how timely.   My new doctor for Pain suggested Omega 3 therapy for PAIN.

I've been taking a high dose (1400 mg twice daily) for my Coronary Heart Disease.  But the NEW therapy for pain involves making sure that the Omega 3 is high in EPA and DHA levels.  This is what I've ordered:

HIGH DOSE AT 2250MG – Higher EPA and DHA levels than other brands with a total of 2,250mg Omega 3 Fatty Acid content.

The requirement is to take 4 of these very high dose capsules a day, much more than I've been taking.

The new Omega 3 Fish Oil capsules haven't arrived yet.

I'm also doing LDN (Low Dose Naltrexone) for pain.  I started just over a week ago, and I'm increasing slowly.  I started at 1 mg and I'm now at 2 mg.  Last night was the first night without pain, so I think it's working.

I can't wait to try the new higher dose Omega 3, as well.

Regards,  Elaine

Elaine,

Thank you for replying.  I saw that your doctor has a list of things to try you on to help with your pain. I am on a mission to try as many things as possible to relieve some of my pain. Please keep me posted on the things that you feel are helping the most

Thanks again!

Wish I could, but fish oil does something to my blood counts, very weird, but true.

Ah SjoGirl, we are all so different, while alike in suffering Immune Disorders.

I note that you and I have many 'conditions' in common, none of them much fun.  And yet we cope, of course, as best we can.

I take about 3000mg of Omega 3 daily (Solgar) and I can't say I'm certain it's doing anything for me.

Elaine- What brand of Omega 3 did you order? I'm ready to try a new brand.

I also take 3.000 mg daily. Helps a little against dryness issues, but I find it mostly beneficial against depression.

I did take it for a year or so.  5000 mg daily.  But I had to stop because I developed some sort of allergy to the fish oil, which caused me to choke and have a difficulty in swallowing.  At least my throat didn't close up totally!

I actually didn't notice any improvement in pain during that year, nor in the eye dryness which was my reason for taking it in the first place.

We are each so different, aren't we?

right now I'm taking 2,400 mg of Omega 3, as recommended by my Cardiologist.

I have ordered (from Amazon)
Omega 3 Fish Oil 2250mg | HIGH EPA 1200MG + DHA 900MG Triple Strength Burpless Capsules | 120 Pills | BioScience Nutrition
Sold by: BioScience Nutrition

So that's what I'll try next, for pain relief.

I use high dose krill oil, read it is less likely to get contaminated.

I'm sure it helps my arthritis, maybe my dry eyes slightly.
Helps keep away mouth ulcers since radiation.
If I lower the dose I get an ulcerated tongue on the radiation side of my face, a nuisance as I didn't need high dose before radiation.

Now I'm finding borax powder helpful for arthritis, helps heaps of things (lupus) apparently like magnesium.
Borax is a golden oldie & we buy both borax & magnesium cheaply from the Polio Clinic which helps support their work.

I find  refined white sugar and dairy aggravate arthritis, not good for SS in general, so rarely eat it.
A healthy diet does help ailments.

Thanks Lotus!!! Does Borax irritate stomach?  I tried glucosamine and chondrotin for arthritis pain and it really helped but irritated stomach terribly.

To all:  I have used Carlson fish oil for 11 years.  It is a high quality and Dr. Mercola and Jordan Rubin used to,recommend. It has a light lemon flavor.

I hope I see some benefits  by being more faithful.

Thanks as always!!!

I take about 4500 mg a day - 1 T Arctic Naturals Omega 3 oil.  It makes a huge difference in my joint pain.  It lowers or get rid of all the pains that are caused by inflammation.  It's a lifesaver.  I also add GLA in the form of black current seed oil, 2000 mg per day, to help with dry eyes.   And the results don't take long to see - it you restarted it for a week, you would probably know if it made a difference or not.

Clinical trial evidence exists that supports a role for the omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids in coronary heart disease prevention. However, the results from these clinical trials have varied and were conducted in diverse population groups using several different types of omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids.

I have taken 4 capsules per day for over 20 years. I can't state that they have helped me at all.

But there is some evidence suggests a role for fish oil (eicosapentaenoic acid, docosahexaenoic acid) or fish in secondary prevention because recent clinical trial data have demonstrated a significant reduction in total mortality, coronary heart disease death, and sudden death.

So I've stopped taking it. Much the same advice as taking 80 mg of Aspirin daily (not proven).

Ohiolady, borax doesn't seem to irritate my stomach.
Only use a tiny bit.  Lick clean finger & dip it into borax powder & use what sticks to finger with water.
Everyone is different as you know.
I'm sleeping so well I'm putting it down to the borax helping as it's the latest nutritional product I've tried.

Full time job helping ourselves isn't it!

I take CoQ10 since I now take a statin...heard it helps aid in the loss of CoQ10 that we lose when we take a statin, but I have read in some studies it can help aid in heart health...who knows, right?
