Anybody deal with scalp and facial pain? I have dealt with it for years and it only truly leaves completely when I am on higher doses of prednisone. When there is discomfort, I shed some hair and when I am on the pred and it stops the inflammation, the shedding stops completely. I am down to 4 mg of prednisone and the pain has returned along with the shedding...ugh. I am going through a work up in July in Seattle for mast cell disorder as I flush and the pain improves on a low histamine diet. Any ideas on the forehead and scalp pain? Thanks
I had something similar last year. It was bloody miserable. It did not include my face though. Started on my scalp as being very dry scalp and hair and I thought it was my thyroid. Unbelievably dry. If someone threw a match at my hair I would have gone up sky high era fast. My scalp was so sore to the touch and at times it would just throb. It was like I did not know what to do about it. Sometimes I would just go crazy with the itching but there was no rash.
I felt that it was a neuropathy because of the weird symptoms. I do have thyroid disease but also 5 totally autoimmune diseases........oh, what to blamed this on. I also had received high dose solumedrol IV once a month for 5 months and thot this might be the problem. I finally went to the dermatologist and got a shampoo and liquid steroid to put on my scalp. I had also lost hair. It finally went away after about 5 months and I have no clue why. I think it was just one of those things but strongly feel it was neuropathy.
Every doctor I see has a different theory. My ENT says it is from the IV solumedrol. My Immunologist did't really know but said if it came back he wanted to know. I think he would investigate further then. It is a weird thing to explain as nothing shows up and yet all the weird pain and sensitivity. Sounds like autoimmune with those symptoms. Hope you can get yours under control. The pain is also hard as I bet not many people can relate to that....but I can. The skin on my scalp even hurt. Sort of like a bruise and burn wrapped into one and then add the itching at times. By the way, in desperation I would rub OTC 1% hydrocortisone creme on my scalp at times and that would ease things a little. Sometimes it isn't what one does it is just that we did something. Irish
Thanks for your reply and yes, how you described it was just how it feels. I also believe it is some type of neuropathy as I have small fiber all over. My scalp and forehead are the worst but at times it can move down my face and last night it was even burning on my lips...very weird for sure. Our bodies are complex and autoimmune issues only confounds things for sure. Hard to explain, but my scalp can even feel bruised at times.
