Title: My Success with Collagen Supplements (so far)
Post by: cmclien on June 10, 2017, 09:03:48 AM
I want to share my success with taking Collagen supplements.  I started taking 3 grams of collagen a day with a tablet supplement by Youtheory (though there are many others other there).  I have been taking them for 3 weeks now and though no significant improvement in joint pain (yet), definite improvement in other issues I have that I believe to be all related to the SJS or general auto-immunity.  Besides the SJS, I have IBS, IC/PBS, Hashimoto's, Reynaud's.

I was not expecting help in any of the following areas, yet that is where I have seen the most help :)

1. I have not needed to take Prilosec now for two weeks!  I have been taking it for 25 years and could not stop without severe gastric distress, heartburn etc.
2. IBS-C greatly improved
3. Insomnia has vanished.  I have had pretty bad insomnia for 5 years with 1-2hour middle of the night awakenings a good 4-5 nights a week.
4. My blue feet have disappeared!  My feet turned blue anytime they were in the down position (like sitting).  I am not over weight and exercise 3-4 days a week on the treadmill and walk my dog.  I believe this was a raynaud's symptom.  I noticed my feet are no longer blue!
5. Improvement in my dry eyes.  My eyes have always been my worst symptoms and I could not go a night without using Systane night time gel.  If I forgot to use it I'd wake up to red, irritated eyes.  About a week into using collagen I tried going without the gel and now have not used it in a week.  My eyes are not red, nor do they hurt when I wake up.  They do tear more in the sun then if I use the gel though.  I started taking a Hylauronic Acid supplement this week also for my eyes so we'll see if that just gives an added improvement.
6. IC/PBS symptoms much reduced to virtually gone.  I was taking concentrated Aloe Vera capsules for my PBS, around 12 a day or so and now am taking 3 or so a day.  I am not thinking of my bladder nearly as much as it has calmed down so much.

Based on all of this, I really believe the lack of collagen and perhaps leaky gut syndrome started so many of my issues and now taking it is healing my gut and some of these related syndromes.  I am hoping in the months to follow, my joints stop aching also.

Great to hear a success story- we see so few of them unfortunately.
Good luck and keep us posted as to your (hopefully continued) progress!  :)
