Title: Certain wines causing hot feet/legs/restless?
Post by: saraj84 on March 09, 2017, 08:02:59 AM
I have searched all over for answers to this with no luck! Sometimes when I have a glass of wine, whether it's red, white, cab, merlot, etc. I will be up all night with hot feet, restless legs/arms, and night sweats. It's not with all wine or beer or alcohol. Could there be something in the wine making process that some wineries use that could be setting this off? Does anyone else have this happen to them? Starting to make a list of wines that do this to me, seeing if there's a common ingredient they have. Would avoid all reds or all whites if that was the trend, but nope! Any advice or thoughts would be appreciated : )

Correct me, someone, if I am wrong, but if I remember correctly there are nitrates in wine that affect some people. One of those people is me. When I would drink wine I would get warm all over and feel feverish plus have palpitations. It was said that people with intolerance to the nitriates who have asthma could have precipitation of asthma attacks.

It bothered me enough to avoid drinking wine as I had heard so much about this. Now days you don't hear this but everyone and their brother has a vineyard so I imagine it is something that is not talked about as much as it could affects the financial aspect of wine making. Irish

My experience with wine is limited, to say the least, but I do know that in past, I could enjoy a local private wine, or an Australian wine, with no adverse effect, but a "big winery" brand would cause me some issues with flushing. After a bit of research, I came to the conclusion that it was actually sulfites, which are a common ingredient in commercial wines in North America, nut not in Australia, and a naturally occuring in trace amounts in all wines and beers, in about the same concentration as aged cheeses.

Oh, Linda, You are so right. I couldn't wrap my brain around that word. It used to list that on some wine labels but not on others. I haven't paid any attention lately.  Nitrates are in processed meat!!!!Irish
