Title: Labs for Dohle bodies/Toxic granulation?
Post by: gurs on March 03, 2017, 05:35:47 AM
Hi,

Im trying to figure out some labs my rheumy ran this week. These came up under Scan/Manual diff tests

called Dohle bodies & toxic granulation? I never saw these before, and my results just show positive?

Has anyone had these done before? I guess it can come back positive in some bad infections, or inflammatory process.

Just curious?

thanks

gursie

I had to look this up again as I has something like this a few months ago. They test the neutraphlls which are a part of the white blood cell group. When these funny blue things show up in the blood smear they are caviled dolby bodies and associated with toxic granulation. This is seen with small and large infections, chemical poisonings of some kind, burns and just other unusual things that can occur. I had the toxic granulation also and didn't have anymore infection/inflammation than ordinary for me.

I think this test is done when they are puzzled and are trying to prove things to themselves so they can forge ahead with other blood work. It is really hard to isolate some of the inflammations and infections people with autoimmune get. I sure do't have to tell you about it , do I,. lol Just a really simple convoluted explanation. Good luck.. Irish

Thanks Irish!

I really wish they could come up with more specific tests regarding infections/inflammation etc. We often feel like we have infections, when ideed its the inflammatory process. I dont feel unusually ill....my doc told me today that my bone marrow is stressed, and I need to start trying Rituxan again, which Im planning to do soon hopefully.

Thanks again,

Gursie
