Hi, is it okay to drink alcohol and coffee when you have Sjorgens syndrome? can it worsen the fatigue or something like it?
I am not the best example. I don't drink any alcohol, although I keep threatening to start.lol
I drink 2 diet Mountain Dew a day and decaffeinated coffee several times a day. Any tea I drink is always decaf. I get more wired from caffeinated coffee than I do from the caffeinated pop. I don't get that but that's the way it is.
I can never say that what I eat or drink causes me fatigue. The best or worst I can say is that some foods will kick up my reflux. Good luck. Irish
I do not drink alcohol. It dehydrates your body (hangover). The medications I am on recommend avoiding it.
I did drink a lot of Pepsi. My peak was 6 liters. I have switched to Arnie Palmer's (Unsweetened Ice Tea and Lemonade). I will have one to three 10 oz bottles per day (I mix my own bottles). The Lemonade helps with the dry mouth and the tea helps with some of the fatigue. The reduced sugar in the lemonade helps mediate the sugar highs and lows. I usually have it with my meals. In the bottle, when I am done eating, I can put it back in the fridge. My wife has started to drink these also making it more difficult to know how many I have gone through at times. (She prefers more sugar.)
I've had one beer since I started with symptoms - it made my throat feel dry as I drank it.
I've slowly added coffee back in after several months, and I'm now back to my two cups every morning. I used to drink it black, but now I add some butter and honey to keep it from drying my throat much.
Other than that, I only drink water (about 3 liters per day), so I'm sure that offsets the dehydrating effect of the coffee.
Hi, decaffenaited coffee is very toxic due to chemicals in the process, research if you don't believe.
unfortunately nature decided for me in my 20s that I couldn't have either of those items..........made the choice easy---my gut gets really sick from both of them, and they did throw off my psyche too ;) but I really miss coffee the most....mmmmmmmmmm
Both coffee and alcohol are dehydrating, irritate the stomach lining and are inflammatory
so drink at your own risk!
Alcohol in particular worsens dry mouth.
I never drink alcohol but allow myself 1 cup of coffe in the morning.
Any more than that and I begin feeling its inflammatory effect.
thanks for putting it in perspective Sharon....yr so lucky you can play with the coffee a bit
I was able to get away with that on and off with black tea which I loved (except when I didn't) but nope, no more, get pain attacks pretty quick from it, and starting to look like may be going that with chocolate pretty soon, have had to cut back.....my last fun thang
I went without coffee for many, many months and never saw any change in my condition. I can't say that any foods bother me with my inflammatory issues but I sure can tell with the reflux issues so have
to watch the foods that I do eat. Goes in streaks I have noticed. Moderation in foods of any kind is the key I believe. Irish
Wendy- Morrning coffee is MY last "fun thing".... :-\
I refused to give up that last one thing. Need a reason to get up in the morning.... ;)
I can't tolerate chocolate because of the sugar or sugar substitutes it always contains.
I don't drink either these days. Both are triggers for ocular rosacea and inflame my eyes right away. I'm also working hard to maintain cognitive ability; any alcohol at all makes my mind pretty vague for a day or two.
Sooki, vague is a good word, my mind gets vaguer for a day or two even when I break down and take a tiny crumb of an antihistamine for headache or sleep or take homeopathic belladonna mixes in sinus or migraine homeopathic combos......even glucosamine is making me spacier headed...seems like any chemical that relaxes me or is analgesic reduces IQ points in me the next day.....a quandary with chronic pain and still working!
Sharon I am going to see if I can be sparing enough with the chocolate to keep that going :)
Alcohol is the only thing to look forward to these days for me. It gets me a sleep and it wakes my brain up.
I'm a wino. Granted, it does make me dryer, but in a lot of ways it makes me feel better.
Coffee is about the only way I can fight fatigue :(
I love coffee, the occasional wine . . . :'( The idea of cutting back (especially on the coffee) makes me sad.
It would probably be a good idea.
I expect an anti-inflammatory diet would also be good for me.
Did I mention that my husband is a hobby baker who makes hundreds of cookies a weekend.
:o :'( :-\
