Title: Two Really Good Books
Post by: Carolina on January 21, 2017, 03:51:07 PM
The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot.

The true story of the effort to grow human cells in vitro (outside the body) by the doctor who tried so hard to do this and succeeded, and the woman whose cancer cells were used to finally establish a never dying cell line in the 50's, which are still used around the world today.  These cells were used to develop the polio vaccine and are used in many biological medications and other scientific advances.

When Breath Becomes Air by Paul Kalanithi,

The true story of a doctor who who was in training to be a brain surgeon when he discovered he had advanced lung cancer.   He wrote the book, which was finished by another writer after he died.  It is inspiring and amazing when a medical man and gifted writer shares this experience.

If you have the time and energy, can you give a 2 or 3 sentence comment on what it is about and why you like each?
VERY general is fine. Thank you!!!
