I noticed that folks here seem to have a nice amount of medical experience and I'm hoping someone can help me...perhaps has had this or know someone who has.
On my right wrist, on the side where my thumb is, I have a small very hard bump about the size of a pea. I had what seemed to be carpal tunnel syndrome in that hand for a few months and was using a brace off and on. For another condition (auto immune low platelets) I had to get on 20 mgs. of prednisone. This stopped the carpal tunnel discomfort (at least for now, while I'm on the prednisone).
Now, on that same right hand, I have this weird pea sized lump. It is hard as bone. It kinda looks like a tiny piece of bone sticking out from my wrist.
I showed it to my GP and she said I will probably need to get it xrayed.
I see on google that this is a common place for a Ganglion Cyst. However, the great majority of references indicate that these cysts are soft.
Has anyone had something like this or know of someone who did? What was the course of treatment? It doesn't hurt unless I press on it.

I have that same bump on my right wrist. Mine is also as hard as a bump and started about the size of a pea, but now it is a little bigger. For the most part it doesn't bother me, but my wrist is on the weak side.
There use to be this one Dr. at the clinic I go too, and I ask him once about it, and he said "that's a bible bump." I was shocked that he called it that. I ask what that meant, and he laughed and said the old people a long time ago use to say that when someone had one of those they believed the only way to get rid of it was to take their heaviest bible and drop on it.
Yeah I thought he was nuts. lol..He is not there anymore, but it wasn't because of me. I think I looked it up and it gave some explanation for it like you mentioned.
I also years ago had carpal tunnel in that hand. So I know exactly what you are talking about.
I have showed it to my Rheumatologist, and he did say it was the result of arthritis.
That is about all I know.

The old doc was talking about a ganglion cyst and the old timers used to drop a Bible on the cyst to hit the cyst with the Bible....whatever worked. This would damage the cyst and probably destroy the blood supply and it would go away. The rest of us have them removed surgically. I had one removed about 40 years ago and it isn't very traumatic. Probably do it in day surgery and under local anesthesia which is the way I had it removed 40 years ago. Good luck. Irish
I have had a ganglion cyst on my right wrist for like 13 years too....it is right over a vein. It has actually got somewhat smaller I just noticed when I looked now. Interesting......wonder if they are common or if some commonality with AI.
These cysts are very common. Mine came on overnight. I had been scrubbing an industrial type carpet with a product and a rag and exerting lots of pressure with my hand. Woke up the next morning and had one on the top of my hand. I had it removed as I bumped it all the time and it was painful. Irish
I have had small bumps on my arm. One of them was there for more than a year and one day I woke up and it was gone. I have had a few that have moved and disappeared. They are strange little buggers!
I had a ganglion on my left wrist in my early 20's. It was visually obvious.
Dr. suggested hitting it with a heavy book.
I left it alone and one day it was gone.
"The cause of ganglion cysts is not known. One theory suggests that trauma causes the tissue of the joint to break down, forming small cysts that then join into a larger, more obvious mass. The most likely theory involves a flaw in the joint capsule or tendon sheath that allows the joint tissue to bulge out."
