Title: Dizziness and more
Post by: Deb 27 on September 27, 2016, 04:46:53 PM
I'm upset about this dizziness that I've been having off and on. I can't figure out what is causing it. Several of my medications might cause it, I think the disease or possibly allergies could be causing this. It comes and goes too.  I've lived in this house and town now for 4 years, never had allergies here but I've been sneezing some too.

It's been a rough couple of weeks. I started low dose naltrexone, which is helping my moods and thyroid. But, it's like it worked too well. Now my thyroid is running hyper, it's also causing my blood sugar to go up and now my weight has gone up b/c of the higher blood sugar/insulin levels. Ugh, I can't win. One thing gets better, something worse.  And now this dizziness. It's funny that one immune problem was helped and thee allergies cropped up. I wonder if it's all related? So now, I've got to go back on metformin. One step up, two steps back. I am tired of swallowing so many pills. It's hard to remember all of them! Thanks for letting me vent.

I guess the first thing I would do would be to stop the Naltrexone as it sure sounds like this could have caused you increase in symptoms. That is the way that it is with these autoimmune diseases. I am under the impression that the naltrexone is not high on the list of meds that most docs give. Things may have changed, but I would certainly discuss this with your doctor as the symptoms you have developed are nothing to fool with.

Have you been checked for a sinus infection by an ENT??? This can cause dizziness. Also, Sjogrens and other autoimmune diseases can cause dizziness and it can be something that one has to live with. Also, yumay have allergies that are plugging up the eustachion tubes which in turn can cause dizziness. I would check with an ENT for sure. Be aware that there are other reasons for dizziness and ENTs can diagnose and treat some of them. Good luck. Irish

I have been also having the same symptoms as you.  For three days my blood sugar was getting low for no reason.  Then it stopped.  I also have been having tons of sneezing, runny nose, post nasal drip and some dizziness upon standing.  My doc says it is probably nose polyps.  I have my first ENT appointment tomorrow afternoon.  Just thought I would throw in another possibility.  Hugs!

Does it mostly happen when you change positions like standing up? Have you ever fainted?

I have allergies and it's ragweed season.  The dizziness is a lot better. I've been taking allegra almost daily. Even my husband who never had allergies, has allergies here and his main symptoms is also dizziness.

Actually, the longer I am on the LDN, the better I feel. I also started a hair, skin and nails vitamin.

Judy P, never had nasal polyps. They sound painful. What did the ENT say?

I've never fainted, thank goodness.

I had a lot of trouble with dizziness and was treated by a "neurootolaryngolist" - which means an ENT who specializes in things like dizziness.  I went through a bunch of medications.  Each one would work but I would get side effects and each time the side effects were worse.  One day, I was at my local Publix (grocery store) with a script for the latest dizzy drug.  I was rather discouraged and said sarcastically to the very nice Pharmacist - "Why don't I just go through all your drugs, I'll start and the left and keep going."  He replied, Have you tried Bonine (meclizine)?".  It is a common, over-the-counter medication used for sea sickness.  It comes in a chewable tablet.  I now carry it with me and find if I chew one the moment the dizziness starts, (I think taking it immediately is important), the dizziness is gone in a few minutes.  Once or twice I have had to take two.  But generally one works.  Now my totally unscientific guess it that it stops what ever is causing the dizziness before it can really get going. I am not a doctor and I really don't like prescribing, but this is cheap (if you buy the generic) and has few side effects.  You can always check with your doctor, but I have been using it for at least 5 years, may be longer and have not had any real problems with dizziness.

Good luck.

thanks katie, I'll check that out. I know meclizine really makes me sleepy and dries me out  something awful. I try to take allegra every day and that has been helping. I'll get some chewable bonine for a rough day.
