Have you any of you looked into/been diagnosed with Alopecia Areata?
Hi hope, I have. Mine is sporadic and treatment was never discussed since it has not been a huge issues beyond some very bald spots that my long hair is able to cover up.
Hi, hopeforall,
I haven't looked at this post because the condition is one I don't have, and one that scares me. Anything with hair loss would be so very traumatic.
Most of my conditions don't show, and hair loss would be so very traumatic to anyone.
Do you have this or suspect you have it?
I looked it up:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alopecia_areata
Please share with us what is happening. Sharing always helps me. Tho' I still must deal with traumas of my conditions, of course.
Hugs, Elaine
I have sporadic hair loss, but so far it always stops before real bald spots start - just thinner, scalp showing - had to change my part, etc. With the regular loss I will probably not grow my hair long again. If you are really concerned, seeing a doctor is probably the best thing. I think that there are new autoimmune drugs that can help with this. Probably something that's more effective sooner than later. Good luck!
Thanks everyone. I have had these in the last week:
1) Couple of small Patches where hair has not grown on mustache coupled with itchiness/irritation.
2) A severely white patch on the tongue that disappeared in a couple of days.
3) Severe pain in the lower half of the middle finger.
My past visits to doctors have been mostly unsuccessful with the mild dry mouth/dry throat, occasional pain in joints getting dismissed as nothing to be concerned about. I have been told repeatedly that my only condition is Meibomitis/ Blepharitis.
I have changed my PCP twice and am going to visit the new doctor for the first time on Monday.
I guess I will be told that the "pain in middle finger" is work-related as I am at a keyboard 40 hours a week.
Are there any specific diagnostic tests I can request for? (Ana, crp, ssa , ssb, tsh were all normal)
Re what testing to ask for: maybe anti RNP for mixed connective tissue disease, but usually there is also a positive ana. Maybe lupus pannel?
I'm sure somebody will chime in with more ideas.
I have been "watching" my scalp again since it's been aching where I had the last bald spot.
Thank you Tharrell. That gave me some pointers.
I'll maybe ask for a basic UCTD panel (including CRP/RF) and a basic screen for cvid.
I am going through something the past 2 weeks that has be flummoxed. I have a couple of areas on the right side of my head near the top that have had less hair for quite a few years. This has gotten worse and the top of my head has been very sore, burning, itching, pain and loss of hair. I have wondered if it is related to my high dose steroid pulse therapy that I have gotten the past 3 months.
It can be related to autoimmune disease in general I know. Any info would be greatly appreciated. The pain is really weird and very hard to explain. Sea Breeze helps relieve some of the symptoms and I figured it would help if there was any infection. Thanks. Irish
