Title: Eye drops
Post by: Wal on July 08, 2016, 07:02:41 PM
I need some suggestions for really good "preservative free" eye drops. My eyes are flaring big time. I've been using Freshkote but just saw it contains a patented preservative. It may be making my eyes worse! They itch and feel irritated  inside my bottom eyelid. Does anyone else have this?

Thank you!

HI, I just use a preservative free lubricated eyedrop in single doses.  It comes generic at my store.  There are many kinds but I like the ones I use.  There are 28 single use dispensers in the box.

I used Alcon naturale free prior to rx.  Now I use restsasis and the Alcon as needed.

I use Restasis eye drops, once in the morning and once before bedtime. Restais is an immune suppressant and the drops decrease inflammation. They cleared my eyes up wonderfully. You will need a prescription for them.

"Restasis eye drops contain cyclosporine which is an immunosuppressant. Cyclosporine can increase tear production that has been reduced by inflammation in the eye(s).
Restasis eye drops are used to treat chronic dry eye that may be caused by inflammation."

I use Restasis twice a day and Bausch and Lomb Soothe drops during the day. Soothe feels just like real tears!

Whilst waiting for ophthalmology appointment in September, when I very much hope to be prescribed Restasis, I am finding pure organic  pharmaceutical grade castor oil quite helpful - a drop or two at night.  I've got dozens of other eye drops including preservative free- they help a little but don't stop the relentless daily reddening. 8)

Hi Wal,
Is your dry eye due to Acqueos Tear Deficiency or Meibomian Gland Dysfunction?
I used Refresh Tears for 2 months and they gave some relief but after my last appointment, it looked like I have a clear case of Meibomian Gland Dysfunction/Blepharitis. I switched to warm compresses, gland expression, eyelid scrubs and have been able to make do without drops for a month now.

At our convention a year ago, I spoke with the Systane representative.  She said you may need to try several drops to find one that works for it depends on what part of your tears are affected.  The tear has 3 layers and different drops affect different layers, so don't give up.  I use Restasis and occasionally Theratears.
