The roof of my mouth is raw & painful; over phone, my PC dr prescribed Magic Mouthwash, because
husband suggested it ( he has used it for canker sores). Has anyone tried this? My dr had never heard
of it. The pharmacy is mixing it.
Its sort of an old-fashioned compound RX that pharmacy can mix together. I think there are different "recipes" but it has a mixture of antibiotics, antifungal, anti-inflammatory, a numbing ingredient, etc and something like Malox. My family doctor have it to me for mouth sores before I was diagnosed. I remember it was soothing and offered some relief. I hope it helps you!
Good stuff! I hope you feel better after using it.
I had it one time and it benedryl, antibiotic, prednisone and I think nystatin. Like was said, it can contain a lot of stuff. Some "recipes" call for lidocaine for topical pain relief. Just depends on what the need is. Sort of a liguid that docs order what is needed for relief. Good luck. Irish
Thank you everyone. It is relieving the pain (for about an hour)
P.Trish-
The pain on the roof of your mouth- is it right behind your front teeth? The area called the rugae? I have had reoccuring episodes of pain and what I think is inflammed rugae. Also canker sores on the roof of mouth. This all started a few months after mouth dryness started. I asked my doc for Magic Mouthwash but he said we should try Nystatin first...not helping. Hope your mouthwash is working better!
Are mouth sores/soreness common with mouth dryness and in Sjogren's? From the posts I've read on here it seems to be.
Hi Inspird, The Magic Mouth has not helped, other than temporary numbness to relieve pain. I've been self diagnosing, trying to stay away from the
doctor.
My rheumo is in L.A., 2 1/2 hours, away. I am seeing my pc dr, this afternoon. my area of pain Is the rugae (thanks for the new vocabulary word!), but
includes the entire hard palate. It radiates to the tip of the soft palate. This has been going on for a week. Drinking water hurts.
I am going to ask the doc about Nystatin. I'll keep you posted. :)
Latest: my PC attributed all the mouth/throat problems to progressive dryness. (ya' think?)
He prescribed a 'modified' magic mouthwash, minus the lidocaine. So, I
now have two giant bottles of mm with lidocaine (which numbs Everything) & 2 giant bottles of mm
without lidocaine. No nyastin, yet. Dentist on Mon.
Throat feels better, but I'm avoiding anything citrus or spicy.
Thanks again for info & advice!
This is all happening in the middle of moving & getting ready for a trip.
