Title: Suspected salivary stone
Post by: annette2 on June 11, 2016, 06:54:28 AM
Just two days ago I started to have pain when I ate, and the left side of my face is swollen. My GP Dr suggests a stone is the problem and referred me to an ENT, but I can't see him until Tuesday

I tried warm compresses but so far no luck. Chocolate is not helping me

Annette ..... I have never had salivary gland stones so I cannot comment on that.

I just want to say that I do hope you find some relief and that the ENT can treat this problem. It sounds very painful.

Sometimes a salivary stone will slide out on its own. But, it lets you know it is there for sure. These stonrs develop from the sludge that settles in the salivary ducts and glands. It is the thick mucus that settles and the minerals that are in the normal saliva tend to settle and make the stones.

I get a lot of gravel in the salivary glands under my tongue. This can feel like sand and I have had times when I said it felt like chewing on fiberglass (insulation)as it was so sharp when I chewed. The minerals in the saliva settle out and form this gravel or stones. Keeping the fluid intake up helps as does the Tylenol or ibuprofen/aleve plus heat to the area and gentle massage. Keep the massage gentle and avoid it if there is bad pain.

The massage could damage tissues if the stone is large and unable to move in the ducts or gland. If youo end up having too much pain be sure to contact the ENT or go to ER for help. Good luck. Irish

Hi Annette,

I've never heard of these stones but I hope it can be fixed for you quickly.

I wanted to thank you for letting us know that chocolate doesn't work... Thanks for my giggle for the day 😀😀

Fingers crossed for you,
Jo.
