Okay so I don't know what this is all about, but I seem to be flaring. Dry mouth - especially painful dry tongue - is terrible at the moment.
I already take pilocarpine, low dose testosterone, dhea, several fatty acids - and even 50mg ubiquinol as of this week. Anyone have an emergency solution??
Sip, swish and swallow...water.
Sorry to hear you're flaring Maria. :-\
50mg Ubiquinol is not enough to make a difference.
Trials done on its effectiveness for saliva production used 100mg.
I took 200mg until it kicked in at around 45 days then lowered to 100mg
but still raise back to 200mg when I'm flaring.
It's not the immediate solution you're searching for
but it's a long-term one if you keep it up.
Not an emergency solution because it requires a prescription, but Evoxac might work for you.
In the meantime, you can get dry mouth spray, dry mouth mouthwash and dry mouth lozenges from the dental section of a drugstore. Chewing gum also helps produce saliva - sugarless is best, of course.

I use xylimelts. They work wonders! They work great at night for sleeping. Rite aid sells them or you can get them on Amazon.
Sorry for my late reply, internet was down.
@Joe S.: sipping, swishing, swallowing ::)
@Sharon: due to my hypersensitivity I always start low. After 10 days I already feel a slight improvement. Nice side effect: ubiquinol also provides interesting dreams & sounder sleep?
@Sunshine: Evoxac is not available in my country. Dry mouth sprays, wash, lozenges only provide temporary relief. Constantly chewing gum produces some saliva, but not enough to cure.
@Wall: I already have Xylimelts, I don't really notice a difference.
However, I did discover that running out of Evening Primrose Oil seemed to make me flare??? Never knew the impact would be so profound! A cold virus probably started off the flare... Now doing a little better, though tongue is still sore.
Thanks for bearing with me!! :) :) :)
I have sjogrens and with it the horrible dry mouth. Nothing would alleviate the dryness especially overnight.
Recently I decided to start drinking green tea not for my sjogrens but for the other benefits I read that green tea helps.
In less than two weeks all my mouth dryness VANISHED!! I am amazed truly amazed I actually cant believe it.
I have moisture in my mouth and in my nasal passages I haven't had a runny nose in years but I do now.
I drink two cups a day and I will never stop
PROVE it for your self It helped me
I have used Xylimelts, ACT lozenges, Biotene mouth spray and gel. I have dry mouth, really bad at times, so depending on the situation, and where I am when I'm experiencing the worsening of the dry mouth, will decide what I use to alleviate what is going on. I also drink plenty of water too. Nothing takes it away, but does make it easier. I hope you find some relief soon.
@zsowhat: I've been drinking green tea for more than a decade. There's some relief, but not enough.
@Vaxgal: tried all of them too, they provide some relief but not enough. Thanks for your support, I really need it at this time...
The best improvement so far is from pilocarpine, evening primrose oil, low dose dhea & testosterone. But during a flare all seems to no avail...
Ubiquinol 200 mgs, daily
Drink water all day long
Lemon cough drops....sugar free preferred
Chew gum for five minutes and discard. Do this a few times a day.
Biotene toothpaste.
Once in awhile I have to use Bioteen mouthwash.....just a quick swish.
If I do all this...I usually do well.
I need to start discarding my gum after 5min of chewing too bc any longer dries me out more. I wonder why.?
my dry mouth has been relieved.
no more waking up with a desert in my mouth.
The only thing I can attribute this to is
the green tea. Nothing worked before
or anything was just a temporary relief.
I have moisture in my mouth when before
it was constantly dry and painful.
My lips were constantly chapped and bleeding
I would have to highly recommend the green tea.
Zsowhat, how do you drink your green tea. Do you drink it straight, or with honey, or milk.? I personally don't like the taste of green tea, but if it helps dry mouth maybe I'll try it again. I just need to know how to make it more palatable .

Hi Maria3667! I just wanted to see how you were doing with the flare. Hoping it is better, or you found something to help. I was just thinking that, depending on if you could do it, if ice would work. You know having some ice to maybe move from side to side or chew on a little. I know ice is not good for our teeth, when chewed, but I thought that it might help. I'm really hoping you are doing much better!
I have no saliva. It is horrible. I have been talking to this dentist. He is really trying to help us. The article below describes his device. Praying for relief.

Hi Vaxal,
Thank you for your concern, my flare has calmed down somewhat. Never realized how important Evening Primrose Oil is for us - until I ran out.... Now back to 2x1300 mg capsules and saliva has improved.
I'd like to try the Saliwel device but am afraid it's another snake oil - already flushed so much money down the drain. My molars already hurt so won't try chewing on ice cubes!
I spoke to this dentist as well as his colleagues in Virgina. Please read the newspaper article from Bon Air Vi.

This guys has invented something. He is looking for people to take part in a clinical trial. He has worked since 1999 on this after getting cancer. It is not a cure but could provide relief
Now the Saliwell, i looked into it by calling dentists who took part in a study. They sadly said it did not work
Maria: in a flare...or during a time I have to take an antihistamine or drying nasal spray...I start with my Xylimelts. When I was first dxed these dissolving tablets could upset my stomach. Not anymore. If I know I have to talk more often than I do on an every day basis, I will lodge one of these tablets along my gum line, and voila. Saliva substitute appears. If I need add'l. substitute like in the middle of the night I use Biotene Oral Gel. I use that when I don't want to consume additional water. Just hints which help me. Hope this info has some value to you.

there is a girl on here that used the saliwell device and she said it really worked! in fact she said the effects are cummulative so she was able to stop using it after a period of time. i am trying to order it but it is not available in the US yet, If anyone lives outside the US you are able to buy the saliwell pen. I think it is worth a shot.
