I've heard mixed opinions about Green Tea. Does it work or more importantly does it make anyone's symptoms flare?
About a year and a half ago for several weeks, I did the paleo autoimuune diet and while I was doing that I switched from coffee to green tea. I felt amazing - better than ever (pain gone, fatigue a thing of the past). I think what helped me was the autoimmune paleo diet (a lot of vegetables, some fruit, some meat and no grains or nightshades or eggs) but the green tea didn't have a negative effect.
I need to get my discipline back and get back on that diet and switch from coffee to green tea.
I love green tea but I only drink one cup in the evening, so
I don't think I drink enough to be beneficial/or harmful to my health.
Do they make green tea capsules?

I take EGCG supplements (great tea extract) as well as drinking a variety of teas. Honestly, as I'm on several different treatments, I can't say for sure whether it is helping, though there doesn't seem to be any harm.
There have been recent studies (http://journal-inflammation.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.1186/s12950-015-0097-9) showing promise for EGCG treatment for autoimmune diseases such as arthritis, but the data is still largely based on animal studies. Additional clinical trials are ongoing. As usual, there doesn't seem to be any studies specifically for SS.
Green tea, especially cranberry green tea, helps alleviate my dry mouth somewhat. For me it decreases burning tongue sensation and lessens the occurrence of canker sores. Also decreases joint pain. However, drinking 1 cup of coffee could set me straight back to square 1.
Thanks for the feedback y'all!
Just saw that LifeExtension recommends 725-1450mg of green tea for dry mouth. One cup of tea ain't gonna cut it. I guess I'll be taking supplements instead...
For me green tea is like a miracle cure for my dry mouth.
I had the horrible dry mouth and dry nasal cavity.
cracked burning lips my mouth hurt from the dryness.
started drinking two cups of green tea a day.
I am amazed at the results. My mouth dryness is GONE.
I do have sjogrens I have the HLA-27 genetic marker which
is a indicator but green tea helped me

This helps me a lot.

It seems like it would be worth a try but I don't consume caffeine or other stimulants. I wonder if there is green tea without either of those. "Decaffeinated" still contains some caffeine.
I have been wondering about the green tea too.
susanep :)
The Camellix company that produces several dry mouth products (including their amazing green gum for dry mouth) has some clinical studies (2nd phase studies for their Mighteaflow gum)) that shows an improvement of saliva production. All of their products have green tea.
The doctor who created the products, Dr. Stephen Hsu (pronounced shoe) has a very interesting talk on Ted Talks regarding how he began learning about the healing properties of green tea.

Yes, you can buy decaf green tea. I might try the mighty flow products.
I have been looking into decaf green tea and found that the decaffeination process reduces the beneficial qualities of the tea. Decaffeination using chemical ethyl acetate to remove the caffeine also removes most of tea's beneficial polyphenols. The better method of decaffeinating, called "effervescence", uses only water and carbon dioxide which retains most of the polyphenols.

How many mg of EGCG do you take?
Thank you for the info on Mighteaflow. Hard sugar-free candies with malate acid also improves saliva production. I get mine from Dr. John's
Just wanted to add that when my hubby was on warfarin or blood thinner the list of foods that he could not eat or must eat in small amounts included the green vegetables and green tea. Green can interfere with the warfarin and I guess I tend to watch that I don't drink too much of this. Green foods tend to have high levels of vitamin K in them which helps increase blood clotting.
Just to let people know---especially if on blood thinners. Irish
Forgot to add this to my original post on this thread.
I don't know how accurate this claim is, but I read in the book, The Paleo Approach, by Sarah Ballantyne, "In healthy animals, green tea extracts are proinflammatory, resulting in greater numbers of regulatory T cells, but also natural killer cells and cytotoxic T cells. Conversely, green and black tea are implicated as good immune modulators in models of autoimmune disease. Green tea was shown to inhibit Th17 cell production and increase anti-inflammatory signals in a rat model of rheumatoid arthritis. A recent study showed that an extract from green tea inhibits naive T cells from maturing into both Th1 and Th17 cells while supporting the development of regulatory T cells."
Hard to tell.
