Would anyone have any idea as to why my doctor would run a test to see if I have a high copper level?
I'm not sure what she thinking.
Thanks
Maybe you discussed symptom(s) listed in this webpage?

Thank you SunshineDayDream,
I can't really say that those topics were discussed. I am always tired and wasn't feeling great as we had just had a major snowstorm and cold and I are not good friends and I always wind up with a flare.
The doctor had the results of a histamine test that was was quite high, and I'm not sure what she was thinking as far as copper could be concerned. She just said she would explain whatever she was thinking of if my copper level was high. It sounded as if the copper test was not something she generally used.
I guess I will wait and hope I hear nothing from her.
My brother has Wilson's disease - high copper levels. His path to diagnosis was a long one. He was taken to emergency suffering extreme chest pain and everyone was thinking heart attack (he was overweight in his 40's) turns out his heart was fine but his liver wasn't. It was a few months and a very persistent Gastroenterologist that eventually tracked down the cause. His levels are now maintained by diet, an arthritis medication which has a side affect of lowering copper levels and other natural medication (I think it is Zinc).
It's not only high levels that cause problems, as low copper levels cause symptoms too.
I'm pretty sure Dr's don't routinely test our copper levels, so I think it's great your Dr is covering all bases in your blood tests.
Good luck, I hope you find answers and feel better soon.
Thank you Aussie,
Thank you for the good wishes the information on your brother. I'm so glad your brother had such a good doctor who took the time to find out the cause of his problems. It can be really hard to find a doctor who will take the extra time needed to figure out something. I am happy he is doing better. Heavens, if they had gone on the theory that it was the heart he could have had medication he did not need.
The last blood work I had didn't show any problems with my liver.
Copper is an usual test. I don't think I have ever been tested for it.
Thanks again for writing. I feeling more like maybe this was a rule things out type of test.
