Title: Anyone tried Avanova spray?
Post by: Way2dry on March 22, 2016, 08:23:56 AM
I just came across something called Avanova spray for blepharitis.  It is a prescription lid cleaner and they claim it improves your eyelids in 2 weeks.  Has anyone tried this?

I couldn't find any reviews on it and my eye specialist never heard of it.

Avanova is a prescription only solution, and as such has been tested and approved by the FDA, at least in the US.

It's basically a very dilute, buffered, bleach solution (we older nurses would recognise it as a form of Dakin's)

Because of the buffering, it shouldn't be irritating, but it does apparently have that "swimming pool" smell (chlorine).

Their website: avanova.com ; has some research notes under the "healthcare professional" tab. (It doesn't ask for credentials, just gives more information on the scientific side than the patient tab offers).
