Title: Proud Mummy Moment
Post by: Scottietottie on November 16, 2015, 06:32:27 AM
A couple of years ago my youngest daughter signed up to do a Masters Degree in Forensic Linguistics. She had to defer - because she got pregnant.
The University of her choice was the other side of the country from where she lives but fortuitously - it was where her partner's parents live.

She started her course just before her son's first birthday. She lived with her 'parent's out law' who kindly did more childminding than they had bargained for! She commuted every second weekend or so to keep the baby in touch with his father.

half way through the course - she fell pregnant again. She had her second child a week after her final lecture. (I am NOT proud of her pregnancies although I totally love the results, but the timing could certainly have been better!)

She was given an 8 week leave of absence and a dissertation deadline. So with two under twos, she set about writing her dissertation. She was told she could get a deferment/extension dues to circumstances but was determined to graduate with her classmates and managed to hit her deadline. Apparently her dissertation was marked and handed in an hour before the exam board took place!

Anyway - she got 70% and they want further discussion with her on publishing a paper.
She'll officially graduate in January and has her eye on a part time research job.

I am very grateful to her partner's parents and her partner who gave her so much practical support and I am in awe of my daughter because I know I could not have done the same thing. She is a great mother too and the kids are thriving.

Boast over!  :)

That was quite a story about your daughter.
As a mother, I can see why you would want some time to boast.  :)

Congratulations to your daughter on her academics, and to the young parents on their new addition + the little one.
They are all lucky they had help.

We helped our young adult son (custody of then 3.5 yr old) .." for a few months Mom.. please"... right around this time of year. 4 years later.. we are still enjoying her company most evenings, sick days, vacations.. etc. "more childminding than they had bargained for!"  ;)
