Okay Sjoggie Friends...
I've dreamed about it; I've saved for it; Like a crazy woman, I've planned for it..and now it's almost here! Our son is a Marine Security Guard in the Rome Embassy. On Sunday night, my husband, grown daughter & I will embark on a 10 day gourmet vacation to Rome, Italy. As many of you know (especially if you follow my wacky Sjogren's blog), I have a crazy sense of humor. I find humor in everything...including Sjogren's. I couldn't help but think about the fact that in earlier days when I traveled, all I had to do was figure out my clothes & shoes & hope that they met the weight guideline for my suitcase. Yesterday, I started contemplating all of the aids I had to plan for this trip. As I sat here at my desk (almost giddy from the excitement), a silly poem popped into my head...I will share ;D
I'm Ready To Fly
call the doctor
Order meds
take some pillows
For my back & my head
get my shoes with memory foam
For miles of walking
throughout Rome
Cover my nose
and cover my mouth
For all of the germs
on the plane
My list never ends
it goes on and on
It's a wonder
i'm still sane
Carry my water
carry my cane
Carry my pain meds too
what if this
And what if that
and everything
In between
i will have fun
I will have fun
i refuse to let
Illness win
i plan to have
Some vino
and enough gelato
That it's a sin
so here I go
On Sunday night
i'm almost ready to fly
Goodbye Sjogren's
goodbye pain
I'm leaving you behind!
Ciao Sjoggie-Mates!

Loved your rhyme. I read it to my hubby and we had a chuckles.
Now, you're not going to believe this, but we are going to Rome on Sunday too - until Wednesday. We are in the UK, so our journey is much shorter than yours.
I remember when you told us about your son's amazing job and how proud you are of him - deservedly so.
Wishing you a wonderful trip.
Hugs

No kidding Kathy!!
Look for me..I'll be the hobbling woman with the very stylish (non-medical) looking cane seat. Someone recently told me that everyone will know that I am American by my tennis shoes! My response is that everyone doesn't start their Rome cobblestone journey with horribly painful feet in the first place.
No illusions here, my comfort drives this journey.
Enjoy your trip..if you were there longer, I would say that we should meet..but know you will be making the most of every minute.
Have fun!

Sandy, yes, it's a shame that our visit is so short. We have a trip to the vatican on Monday and one around the coliseum on Tuesday. They are both half day trips, but I think they will be tiring, so it's no point in making any other arrangements.
If you see a 5 ft tall blonde woman looking completely red and worn out, that will be me! What an picture we would make if we were together :)
Bon voyage!

Kathy,
We are taking a Rome @ Twilight Tour on Mon. evening. Jon (our son), has made friends with the Swiss Guards. He has one of his friends giving us a private tour of the Vatican, the Swiss Guard barracks which includes a small museum with ancient weaponry, St.Peters & the gardens on Tuesday.
Wednesday, we are going to Venice & Murano. That day is supposed to be a 16 hour day.
Kill me now. I know it will be fun..but certainly a long day.
Doing some more tours, including a winery tour with wine tasting. We actually left some open days with nothing planned. I have a feeling I might be resting on those days.
What part of the UK are you from?
SjoDry
Both of you, have great trips with good health all the way. Irish
Thanks Irish. Hubby and I have had a really good day sightseeing. It is around thirty degrees, which feels wonderful. My joints love the sunshine.

Hope you both enjoy yourselves.. :D
If you have time, visit the Capuchin Monks - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capuchin_Crypt
Certainly something very different.
