Title: The Healing Power of Your Own Medical Records: NYT 4/1/15
Post by: Carolina on April 01, 2015, 05:07:13 AM
The more you know about your own records/conditions, AND the more research you do, the better off you'll be.   So says this article in the New York Time.

Thanks Elaine. I enjoyed that article. That was a big tumor!!!

That article is a perfect example of what patient empowerment is all about.

I even read a story where a young lady took some biopsy slides to a class with her and they found crohn's disease when the hospital path report said the biopsy was negative! Ouch!

I picked up my records after my hospitalization a year ago.  I was still having problems getting a diagnosis and was be referred to several doctors.  I finally decided to go back to a major medical center and see their specialist.  He had received my records from my primary but was still confused about the diagnosis until I pulled out the hospital records and he was able to figure out what was going on.  Had I not brought those it would have been another doctor visit with a diagnosis being some polite form of "GOK"- God only knows.
