That article is a perfect example of what patient empowerment is all about.
I even read a story where a young lady took some biopsy slides to a class with her and they found crohn's disease when the hospital path report said the biopsy was negative! Ouch!
I picked up my records after my hospitalization a year ago. I was still having problems getting a diagnosis and was be referred to several doctors. I finally decided to go back to a major medical center and see their specialist. He had received my records from my primary but was still confused about the diagnosis until I pulled out the hospital records and he was able to figure out what was going on. Had I not brought those it would have been another doctor visit with a diagnosis being some polite form of "GOK"- God only knows.
