Ok, it just keeps getting worse. Trying to stay positive, but when I do, things get worse. My motto has always been "expect the worse", hope for the best!!!
After dealing with this shingle pain, broken foot confirmed, went to the dentist on Monday because my bridge was loose. The dentist said my big bottom molar was broke, and other two teeth got decay. He could have patched me all back up, root canals, new bridge etc, then it would be thousands of dollars, and then probably have more problems after that. We decided to pull all 3 teeth..what a nightmare!!!! I thought shingles pain was bad enough. He had to surgically dig all these teeth out as well. I now have no side bottom teeth..fun to try and eat!!!
I started amoxicillin and not feeling good at all, wondering because of the penicillin and lupus/SS, flaring me?
Maybe try clindamycin instead? which do you guys like better and easier on the tummy?
I have pain and swelling..talked to the doc yesterday and I guess this is normal and will take along time to heal.
Also have yucky taste in my mouth..not sure if I even have infection..such a massive shock to my body. The dry mouth and now
allergy season making it super hard. Im gargling a lot with salt water and have a peroxide rinse that I have been using a lot.
any suggestions?
thanks
Gursie

I'm really sorry to hear you are suffering yet more ill health. How much more can a girl tolerate?
In regards to the antibiotic, I have always found the amoxicillin to be very helpful, so that would be my choice.
Do you know how you broke your foot?
Kathyx
Thanks Kathy!!!!
No, Ive been in bed so much last 6 weeks with the shingles. I do know my bones are horrible. I also have to throw away these slip on shoes I wear around the house..they have a bit of a wedge with little support..you think Id learn after 3 breaks in the last year!!!!
Think im going to try the Amox and see how it goes.
I should be used to problems all the time, but the pain involved is just relentless........
anyways, thanks again
Gursie
My opinion and that of many of my doctors is that amoxicillin doesn't do the job anymore for most people. Some people who don't have many infections and don't get so terribly ill will manage to be helped by this antibiotic.
Oral infections are often treated with 2 antibiotics. I think I was given clindamycin for sure and maybe cipro or flagyl at the same time. I am just trying to pull things out of my memory bank. I had so may infections and was on 2 antibiotics at the same time quite a bit. Flagyl is a good drug as it acts on anerobic and aerobic bacteria. In other words bacteria that live with or without oxygen.
Do youo have access to infectious disease doc??? You have so much going on that it might b worth your while to be assessed so that you don't spend so much money and so much time on antibiotics that might not be helping you.
Another drug that my doctors say is like pouring it down the drain is Z-pack. I have taken so much of that during the past 20 years that it is useless to me. Good luck. Irish
Antibiotics always make me feel horrible...achy, tired, generally cruddy. :( But they do save lives and suffering!
I'll give my standard warning about cipro, too, since it was mentioned. Many years ago, my husband took it for a sinus infection and ended up almost dying....his reaction was RARE, but not unheard-of. Within 3 days, the cipro made his body completely stop producing white blood cells. If you are taking Cipro and start feeling WORSE instead of BETTER, please contact your doctor immediately. It's probably nothing, but on the (literally) 1 in 10,000 chance you're somebody who reacts badly to it, it's better to be safe than sorry.
Of course that's true for ANY new medication!
Hope you feel better soon....it always amazes me how simple salt water can do so much to battle infection and heal mouth tissue.

First I am sorry you had to join the no side bottom teeth club.
Second, when I have extractions they give me clindamycin. Only because I am allergic to the rest.
Now, concerning extractions, you having that much pain? I wonder if you may have developed dry sockets. Those are extremely painful. Only time I had those after extractions was when my wisdom teeth were yanked (all 4 at once), and I developed dry sockets in all four!! Meaning the clot basically poofed like a day or two later.
If the pain continues at that level, I'd go back for a spot check by the oral surgeon. At a minimum, call and get the greenlight on oil of cloves (available OTC but usually behind pharmacy counter). A teensy teensy bit of oil of cloves on gauze (check with your oral surgeon FIRST) has a numbing effect also.
Actually, when I got dry sockets, my oral surgeon packed all four holes with oil of cloves.
And it is possible between the shingles and extractions another flare has been triggered.
Hugs and Prayers for a speedy recovery,
Amanda
Gursie,
I am so sorry for all you are going through. You have been through a lot with the shingles and now this. My heart goes out to you. Sending you a big hug.
Anna
thanks for all the hugs and well wishes..this last month has certainly been trying. So many of us in similar situations unfortunately.
I decided to try Erythromycin instead. I was reading about all the dental antibiotics, and saw that this was used for
gastroparesis??? my mom had a bottle so I took 500mg last night. Ok this morning, but tummy hurts. Antibiotics just rip me to shreds. Worried about my systemic yeast too...
I had dry socket before and don't think this is it. I can see on the side of my gum, its very red and tender. Im sure this Is going to be a long healing process, especially with the dry mouth. I just keep rinsing with salt water, and another rinse product that has
perioxide in it.
Time will tell...
Gursie
Dearest Darling Gursie,
I just read your age....and my heart is broken is a zillion pieces. You are doing what you must, but it just isn't a bit fair to be dealing with all of this at 50, which truly is the prime of life.
It is all the 'conditions' I'm sure. Your Immune System has been attacking your body for years, and the result is clear: just the example of your teeth. But to bear all of this while in the agony of shingles, which goes on and on and on, is just too much.
I wish we all lived next to each other. I would forget my petty problems and bring you roses and soup, fluff your pillows, empty your trash, do your laundry, and generally find joy in trying to ease your day.
This forum will have to do, I guess.
Last night I found that my jaws were aching, as if I had sinus/teeth problems. I don't of course, but that is one part of my flare.
But one of the pieces of my deteriorating immune system was three abscessed teeth, those hours in the dentist's chair, those dollars just sucking out of my cash flow (all flowing out!).
You are caring for yourself, Angel Gursie. And we all care for you. Please keep sharing with us.
Hugs, Elaine
Thank you everyone, and Elaine, your kind words. Ive been dealing with issues since I was diagnosed as a teen with Sjogrens, but the last 8 or so years have been a struggle to say the least!!!! Ever since my hysterectomy in 2006. My body just falling apart.
Trying to get to try some new treatments, but everytime I do, the infections etc keep coming up. I wanted to try Rituxan again next month, but with my shingles...no way now. Im going to try and focus on my hormones now. I need to get my estrogen up to help with the bones and everything else.
But, I read so many others that have just plain chronic suffering on this site....especially those dealing with SS/Autoimmune and
cancer on top of it all??? I don't know how they do it. We all deal with wayyyyy to much..its almost laughable at this point.
Yeah, its bad enough with all the dental suffering, but with all the money spent trying to fix this problem. On my way to dentures
for sure now.
thanks again for all your support. I would be lost without everyone on this site.
