Hello Everyone,
I didn't know how else to title this thread. A few minutes ago I sat down and my face, head, neck, shoulders, and down both arms starting feeling really hot, then from that to really feeling like they were all burning, and under light me and my husband could both see my arms turn red. I took my temperature and it was 97.6 so I do not have a fever. It is now slightly fading some, but I had to keep putting cold water on some areas due to the pain.
Does anyone know what this is, and have you ever had this happen?
Hugs,

Yikes! That sounds scary! I had a similar response when I developed my sulfa allergy - although your experience sounds more intense. Any chance it was an allergic response to something?
I hope you find out what caused it sooner rather than later!
I've never gotten a good explanation of it, but I sometimes turn bright red in the face and chest, and feel like I'm having a hot flash, though I'm well past menopause. It can last for hours. It can also come and go multiple times over a period of weeks.
I first thought of a hot flash, but never would have thought they burned like that.

Is it possible that it is some type of neuropathy. Did you feel like you pinched a disc in your back or put something out of whack when you sat down. Always something. If it never happens again that is good. If it happen again you could make an apt with doc or at least call and his office and pass the info on to his nurse. Good luck. Irish
My mother had really terrible neuropathy in her legs and feet. She told me once she prayed that none of us girls would ever have it. I will be going for many specialist appointments this month. I did think about the neuropathy.

Certain reactions to medications make me feel like this. Skin burning bad for a few hours then cooler, no fever, but does feel like a bad sunburn.
Have you started any new meds lately?

I'm sorry you're dealing with this. The only thing close that I've had, and only a few times, is my toes/feet turning bright pink, I wouldn't say red, more pink. The first time was so surreal I thought I had imagined it, but then it happened again. Yesterday it happened -- I took a 75 mile trip with my husband and on a stop to get snacks at Walmart, I noticed my toes and feet tingling. I slip out of my shoes and there was the bright pink again. It left after a few minutes though, thankfully. It's really a very strange thing to see.
My experience is minor compared to yours but I hope in some way, it helps.
Good luck.

Hey Susan, you have Lupus also correct? I have seen pics of people with the rash covering the neck chest and arms. It can be bright red and hot. Also my aunt said when she has hot flashes she turned beet red and hot all over. Something like that I would phone the doctor about, esp if there is burning or itching.
well me and my husband had to go to the regular gp yesterday with chest congestion etc. and before we left I told her about that incident, and that I had not taken my gabapentin for a couple of days before it happened to see if it helped my blurry eyes. She said, yep that is what caused it. She said we are not to go cold turkey off that med, because of the side effects which I experienced. She said that it works on the nerves to help us so going off like that provoked all those harsh symptoms.

I don't think you mentioned (at first) stopping the Neurontin...that does explain it for sure. You have to taper off Neurontin or you will get withdrawal syndrome and it can include unusual symptoms like you describe. Actually, all depending on how high the dose taken and how long on it, the withdrawal can be pretty bad. Sadly, there is no usually a warning label on the bottle telling you not to stop suddenly.
Side effect of niacin (B vitamin) maybe?
from drugs. com
Dermatologic (side effects of niacin)
Dermatologic flushing (facial and whole body) and pruritus as a result of stimulation and release of prostaglandins by niacin....
just a thought...
