Just wanted to ask what pharmacies most folks use and why. I am using walgreens now- close location, like their app and get emails when meds are ready. Looking to change.
Thanks,
Keith
Where I used to live I used Rite Aide.
When I moved I found another Rite Aide almost next to where I grocery shop, has drive thu and delivers. I have gotten mailings to buy prescriptions via mail that would come from a warehouse in another state. I prefer to support my local businesses and employees.
They call and tell me when meds are ready, if I need one filled quickly they are very helpful and are a courteous, professional staff.
I have had a bad experience at two different CVS pharmacies in my small town, one where they knew I was sick and waiting for my prescription and sitting in a chair right outside the pharmacy in full sight of everyone working. But they let me sit there for 30 minutes longer than it took to fill my prescription. I finally dragged myself up to the desk and said, can you tell me please how much longer this will take? And the girl at the register said, oh, it's been ready for you. I completely went postal.
I now use WalGreens. They've always been professional and kind. And that's all I ask! :)
I guess it depends on the people and prices.
Little dirty secret is that some do area pricing. Meaning you pay more in what they think are the more affluent areas of town. Yeah it is true so check around in prices to get an idea.
Also, check the look of your medicines and ask questons on new ones. If your medicine doesn't Look the Same, call. If they won't listen, Go Down There. My dad had emphysema and they mixed up his med with a heart medication. Would not believe him over the phone so dad went down there and the pharmacist about had a heart attack himself. Dad knew that wasn't his medicine.
I'm still with Walgreens although I might be making a change, as recent months I have to wait for them to order my regular meds more and more. Frustrating. They have dramatically reduced their on-site inventory. And who wants to make double trips to pharmacy to pick up what should be a single rx?
Then I have a compounded RX that no chain drug store can fill and that one is via a compounding pharmacy.
I don't have much experience with CVS, but I was impressed when they had on hand what was newly rx'd for that Walgreens did NOT have on hand and I would have had to wait a couple of days for it to come in. Plus CVS filled it very quickly, and when calling CVS, they don't have that horrid beat drums and bass on my head music on their hold system. They play classical.
Sounds like silly reasons to consider a change, but I am seriously considering a change. Downside - everyone at Walgreens knows me on sight and they are very quick to spot a contrainidication. A bit reluctant to give up that part.
CVS is the pharmacy that our pharmacy plan at work requires that we use if we have insurance through my employer. They have generally been good.
Walmart has $4 drugs. They have a list on their website. There is also an android app called GOODS RX free in Google play.
I live in the upper Midwest and I shop at HyVee grocery stores. There pharmacy has been good and the staff are awesome---almost feel like family. I sometimes fill a script at Walmart or Walgrens when I visit the kids and have to see ER. I am not enthralled with Walmart due to past experience when working as a nurse but it might be that different stores have different policies related to the disposition of the pharmacist.
They all seem to have the 4$ drug in my area and most of the drugs we use are now made out of the USA so we all get pretty much the same drug suppliers. I do order some of my drugs from a pharmacy up "North" as some of them are cheaper that way. If interested you can PM me. Irish
I use CVS where I live and have been happy - they have never had a shortage of any of my sjogrens meds and have automatic refill where they call you when the medication is ready to be picked up. They are the pharmacy that assured me that when I was told evoxac was in short supply that they would keep me in supply of it as well as the generic plaquenil.
I did not have good luck with a previous CVS I used so I think as with all businesses you need good people to keep the business running well and customers happy.
Hoping you find a good fit for you.
