Title: How's the weather where you live?
Post by: aussie mum on November 22, 2014, 03:00:49 AM
Hope all you northerners are coping well with all that snow. The pictures are amazing.

It's almost summer here and we have had a few scorching hot days in Sydney. Tomorrow we're expecting  35C (95F) on the coast, 42C (109F) in the western suburbs. Glad we've got air conditioning  :D

Yep, you have to deal with another 4 letter word - HEAT.

I'd rather deal with heat than cold.

It's been subnormal cold here recent weeks much earlier than usual. No snow thankfully!!

We've had a mix of clear blue skies - and - Coastal wind/rain storms.  Temps are hovering around 0C - 10C.  The winter dampness and cooler temps chill me to the bone, but I am incredibly grateful for the lack of snow!!!

CLEAR sky high blue skies, full sun, day time in the 50's, night time around 25.

I love winter in NC.

Hugs,  Elaine

But wait a bit and it will be something else again.

Warmer than usual - in the low 50s but rainy and dreary...

Weather can't seem to make up its mind to be warm like early fall or cold like an early winter.

It's dry anyway. ;)

Sydney has been quite "tropical" this past week. Hot humid days followed by spectacular thunderstorms at night.  ;D

Things were unpleasant here for a while.  First came two feet of snow in two days, with high winds causing a lot of drifting.  Then the temperatures took a nose dive to -40 C degrees.  What a mess our roads were.  With the freezing temperatures it was like driving on a wash board!

But we survived!  Now it is a balmy -5 C during the day and sunny.  ;)

Wow Carebear!  I hope that's -40F, not -40C!!!  I've experienced both; either way -40 is cold :(

Actually, -40 is where the Celsius and Fahrenheit scales match up... -40C=-40F

I didn't know that Linda!  When I was a kid, Canada used Fahrenheit and -40 weather was the norm during our Northern winters.  It never kept us down - we were outside all the time.  Canada long ago switched to Celsius and while Northern winters are not (generally )as brutal as they used to be, I took a trip up North last winter and they just happened to be having a rare cold snap of -40.  It brought back lots of memories and reminded me that I'm not a kid anymore!

It's been fine here in NC - but we have artic temps coming next week in the single digits

Where's my "bear cave" so I can hibernate?

Ah, Amanda, it may get cold but I keep the humidity as close to 65% as I can get it...running the humidifier 24/7 at full blast.  And I'm fine.  But then I almost never get cold.  It's the heat I can't stand anyway.

It's 48 degrees at 10:30 pm and it's predicted to be 71 degrees on Sunday.....Winter in NC, I'll take it any time over  Boston, where we lived for 25 years.

And Boston is better than Kansas City, Kansas, and KC, Kansas, is better than Northeast Iowa where my husband grew up.

Come join my in my bear cave in Cary!

Hugs,  Elaine

I am jealous of the 65% humidity. I have to keep humidity here maintained at 45%. Don't get me going on that last mold development back in jul/aug. So in my bedroom, I am running a Holmes HuMidifier which has a humidistat, and other end of dwelling a dehumidifier to keep excess moisture down in kitchen (which is highly vulnerable to mold growth as I found out the hard way, and I am highly allergic to mold)

Good point about Boston cold etc being worse. However, I liked winter better when at least the temp was consistent to where our bodies can actually adjust to teh season. But this flip flop between warm and extreme cold weather doesn't give our bodies time to adapt to the season change.

Here in Western Australia I find I'm less dry in summer & feel better than in winter.
So far the summer has been very mild & I've been longing for it to be warmer.
Expecting 39 degrees Celsius today though which is too hot.  Hopefully a late afternoon sea breeze will arrive since I am cooking a lamb roast for visitors for our evening meal.
We have air con so we won't be hot while eating.

If I had wings, you'd have another guest, albeit uninvited. ;)

10c (50f) with light rain here.  The rest of Canada (and much of the US) is in a deep freeze right now.  My sister just advised it is -37c (-34f) where she lives - which is WHY I don't live where she lives ;)

Sunny and 60*...  Usually in January we are in the low 50s in the day, and around freezing at night.
A cold front roared through last week, giving us highs in the 40s.

Y'all should move here.

Cold and windy in W Yorkshire, but not dipped below freezing yet. We had our first snow of the winter overnight, but it has melted now.

The Santa Ana winds are blowing in hot and dry from the desert. It's in the upper 70's. I know a lot of you are freezing but, to me, this weather is misery. My lungs, eyes, mouth and throat feel like dried leaves. Every joint aches. I'd give anything to be back in Chicago with my family. At least there's humidity, clouds, rain and snow there. I can handle the cold. Can't take the dryness, constant sun and warm weather of LA anymore.  :'(
