We have been looking for a new home for a couple of years, and this week, we finally moved in to a modern dormer bungalow, with a bedroom and bathroom on the same level as the living area. Our previous home was built on four levels, and steps are my enemy, so this new house is my dream. We are so excited - I keep thinking I'm dreaming.
The icing on the cake is that we are now mortgage free after 39 years, which means I might be able to retire younger that 66, which is how it stands at the moment. This is amazing, as I know I can't work for the next 9 years.
Just wanted to share my good news with my friends on here.

New home, one level, no mortgage --- sounds great to me ;D
Congratulations Kathy.
Woot! Woot!
Kathyx..
I am so happy for you.
A "dream house" on ONE level.. AND no mortgage ..Yeah.
Hmm, well our bedroom is on the first floor, so that's one plus.
Our mortgage is at 3.375% interest, so tho' we're not mortgage free we couldn't rent for what we pay in mortgage, plus taxes and insurance.
I retired at 58.......just in time for everything to hit me at once!
Thank goodness I didn't have to work through it all.
Hugs, Elaine
That is totally awesome!!! So very happy for you!
Congrats!

Kathyx - I am so happy to hear your good news!! I know this is something you've been hoping for, for a while.
I'm sure it will be a huge help to you to have a bedroom & bathroom on the main level.

The icing on the cake
Did you say CAKE?? Mmmmm . . . I think there should be cake to celebrate your good news! ;D
I hope you will be able to retire soon so you can enjoy your new home and not have the worries of work, your health, etc.
Enjoy your new home and your new neighborhood.
Best wishes to you always.
Hugs,
Bucky
Thank you all so much for your kind comments.
We have been on leave from work for the past week, It's been a busy one, organising our things, but the sun has shone every day - almost a miracle in northern England. We feellike we are in a holiday home, rather than our home. I'm sure that will change, as we get back into our work.
Hugs

Congratulations Kathy!
Enjoy your new home! :)
Congratulations! Love hearing good news. I wish you much happiness in your new digs.
Maria
Congratulations! I know your new home is just fabulous.
Wow thats great you sound like you found your dream home. Was it a long time to sell your old house? I am probably putting mine up also but the market here is dead, but I cant keep it up much longer. Its too big for one person I dont need 3 bedrooms, and all that land to mow.
It sounds wonderful! Congratulations to you. :D
Best, Marie
Speaking of cake, Does anyone remember the Irma Bombeck article where she goes to welcome a new neighbor right after the moving van left? THe neighbor is apologizing for the mess, "brushing an imaginary speck of dust" off the table and offering her a slice of freshly baked lemon chiffon cake.
It takes us YEARS to finish unpacking!
Sharon
Congratulations! So very happy for you!
Hope you get all settled and feel great in your new home.
Sallie
That's wonderful news. Congratulations!
Thank you everyone for your kind words.
Tivia, it took about 10 weeks from accepting the offer to actually moving in. The place looks organised, but we have a very useful box room that is full of ... boxes of stuff that needs unpacking - eventually - or dumping if we don't need the stuff within 6 months.
The people around are mainly octogenarians - it is a place for over 55's, but I am the youngest here, and we are the only couple still working. I was having a chat with one lady who had pressure washed my yard (without me asking her), she mentioned the fact that the residents used to do a lot of partying but hadn't for a while, as they are all getting on a bit now. She looked at me expectantly. I didn't have the heart to tell her that she had far more energy than me, even though I could be her daughter. I think I will have to be open about my limitations, even though I " dont look sick"

Oh my not only "the New kids" on the block.. but, also "the Young Kiddies"..lol.
Hope you are both doing well.
Congratulations on your new home! I hope it makes a real difference in your well-being.
Take care,
Genko
Thanks Genko. How are you doing?
Kathyx
Kathyx - now that a few months have passed since you moved into your new place - how is everything?
Are you all settled in now?
I'm so glad you sold your other home and have moved and are settling into your new home. Wishing you much happiness in your new home.
Hugs,
Bucky
Mrs Bucky, we absolutely love our new home! It seems very odd being the youngest in our little 'village'. It is in a complex of around 40 bungalows for people over the age of 55, and we have met some incredible older people. Most are retired now, and they are such characters.
One of the most inspiring is our next door neighbour. She is 78 and pressure washed our yard for us when we moved in. Then she went down to the care home in our complex to do the hair of a lady of 102 who had previously lived in the bungalows. After doing the lady's hair, she walked her back up the road to her house for tea. That lady certainly puts me to shame.
Then there is another lady who is probably in her 80's. She made the painful journey of around 100 yards from her house to ours, on elbow crutches, to bring us a welcome card.
And last, but not least, another very elderly neighbour walked three or four hundred yards to our house, using a three wheeled stroller, to invite us to join her lottery syndicate draw.
We are certainly blessed with our neighbours, as well as with our lovely new home.
Thank you for remembering we had moved.
How is your lovely home after all your chores earlier in the year? Are you still enjoying a clutter free table?
Kathyx
I am so glad that this all worked out for you. The bathroom and bedroom on the same floor will really improve the quality of your life. Buying and selling houses are one of the more stressful events in this life. Irish
Thanks Irish. The move was the result of two years of planning, and we are very happy with the choices we made.
