Hi. I was reading an article talking abot how thymus extract could possibly help with the sicca symptoms of Sjogren's. Obviously, it is made out of cows or some other animal and I question the safety of it. However, I am getting desperate and would be willing to be a guinea pig at this point.
But, I firstly just wanted to ask if anyone else out there had ever tried it. I know I have a friend with another autoimmune disease whose naturopath suggested it but she was too afraid to take it.
Any thoughts?
No idea, but I will look it up.
Nellie
My curiosity was piqued so I did look it up...interesting:
healthline.com/natstandardcontent/thymus-extract
webmd.com/vitamins-supplements/ingredientmono-1009-THYMUS+EXTRACT.aspx?activeIngredientId=1009&activeIngredientName=THYMUS+EXTRACT&source=2
What is troubling on the webmd info link is they say that as thymus can come from animals, there is concern about possible contamination with diseased animal parts. Oh joy (NOT).
I personally would be hesitant on that basis alone. Key word: hesitant, not necessarily a definitive no.
Well, I think I am going to get some and give it a try. I will be the guinea for all you guys and report back after a couple of months. I'm desperate.
