Title: My ribs HURT!
Post by: eija on May 11, 2014, 05:25:29 AM
Yesterday we had a 450 km road trip to move daughter back home. Thankfully husband came with me so I didn't have to drive or pack the car. Well, last night I slept (more or less) for 13 hours and still struggled getting up at 2 pm. Is this normal??!! Hubby said I had been talking in my sleep, too.

My ribs are hurting so bad that I almost have trouble breathing and I could just scream (if only it didn't hurt my ribs!). It feels like someone has tried to rip them apart one by one. Yeah, I've had this before, but never this bad. And usually it eases up a bit after I've been up for a while. Now it just keeps aching.

What IS this? Sjögrens? Fibro? Is there anything to help it? Ibuprophein in large doses? Codein? Morphin? Death?

Sigh.

Don't you have surgery coming up on your gall bladder? Is it possibly something changed related to gall bladder and it's a referred pain situation?

I'd personally get that rib pain checked out, rather than try to guess what it could be. The only time I had rib pain such as you describe it ended up being 2 cracked ribs. How that happened heck if I know. I had gone to sleep as usual and woke up with horrible rib pain that hurt with every breath. Went to doc three days later who xrayed, expected something in lungs, turned out to be two cracked ribs.

What did it turn out to be when you had this before?

Hugs

Amanda, wow, cracked ribs!

My pain is on both sides - althoug worse on the left. Gallblader pain can vary and manifest in different ways, but this actually feels like it's in the tendons (or what ever it is that keeps the ribs together) and not organs. It has subsided a bit now, but still very much there.

At the time of my diagnosis I often used to have rib pain. It was never checked out, the dr's pretty much shrugged it off along with other pains I had. So I guess so far it's been "sjögrens pain" or "fibro pain"... Also, I used to think it was because of me sleeping on my side with a too high pillow that would make my below side stretch too much. I even woke up for that pain, and it usually helped when I turned on the other side. Now I'm sleeping less on my side because my hips and upper arms hurt then, too.

I don't know. But it sure is painful!

It could be costochondritis.  Google it and see if pain fits.

Eija,

I don't know... I'm with Amanda,  I think that you need to be seen. Whatever is going on, that kind of pain just isn't right. Do you have osteoporosis? I don't know all of the meds you are on but if any are steroids, this can cause osteoporosis fairly fast. When you have it, you can crack your ribs just reaching for a glass up in your kitchen cupboard.

Hope you get some relief soon.

Grace and peace to you.
