I am starting plaquenil this week and also need to start a medication for fairly severe TN. Any thoughts about what I should ask my Dr about ? I do not want to gain weight I have already gained alot from being so tired , and I also have panic disorder that is well controlled , but sometimes medications ( surprisingly ones that are sedating) can bring one on .
TRacy, I have to admit that right now I can't conjure up what TN means. Please give me a hint. Irish
I clicked out and it hit me. Trigeminal Neuralgia. Now, I have to think about that for a while.
I was at the ER this morning- i am hoping this will get my drs butt in gear and try something !
I have a friend with TN. I think she takes something like neurontin for it, actually.
I'll ask her.
Hugs, Elaine
Elaine, is right, Neurontin is a commonly used medicine for TN. It does have sedating effects (and weight gain), but not all experience it and as most side-effects, it CAN ease up after being on it for a while.
I know that some anti-seizure drugs can be used for treatment of TN, and as with Neurontin, weight gain may occur too. But as stated by Anita, the side effects can reduce themselves over time. I know mine have.
Whoa good to know . Weight gain is not an option for me i will have to find out if there is one that doesnt have that side effect ! Already packed on a lot from having my energy gone . i felt sooo good on my week of prednisone i felt that i would have lost weight .
