I know we post many times about the negative situations we have with Doctors. And yes, there are plenty of negatives many times. So I wanted to tell people when a Doctor goes above and beyond as well.
I have talked about my search for a good Rheumatologist. I went through 3 before finding him. He has been great with my care and is a truly caring individual as well. So what did he just do? I also have Scleroderma and we have been working hard on a golf tournament. On my last visit, I mentioned it to him. He was very excited about it and talked about how "awareness" was the key. He congratulated us on working hard to bring this awareness. He then said, "Hey, fax me the flyer and I'll post it here. Who knows? I probably have some patients that play golf."
So I faxed it a couple of days later thinking that was nice of him. This was 3 months ago. Yesterday, the committee chair called me and said, "Hey! Is your Rheumatologist Dr. XXXXXX?" I said he was and she told me they have received a note in the mail from him that said, "I wish I could attend, but know I will be there in spirit! Thanks for everything you are doing" and enclosed was a check for $500!!!
Ok, I'll admit, it brought me to tears. I know he is a good Doctor and always seems to be compassionate and caring, but that showed me I have made the total right decision. We didn't ask him for funds, he just volunteered to post the flyer.
So if you don't have a good doctor, please don't be afraid of looking for another one. Keep looking until you find one that you are satisfied with. It makes a world of difference.
Velcro,
Thanks for posting this. It is easy for patients to forget that there are really good doctors out there.
This example shows a doctor commited to his work, an involved, caring, kind and compassionate person, which makes for a stellar physician.
I am so happy you have found a prince for a doc! May we all find princes for our medical care and stay away from the frogs!
Gail
Velcro, great story!!! Your rheumy rocks!! I love mine, as you know.=) They do exist, just hard to find.
Velcro how awesome for you. My general doctor is like that. I pray she never retires.
How awesome!
I love my doc as well. I have to travel out of my area to see her but she is bright and doesn't ignore my complaints. She is working to find out the cause of my rash and itching and she laughed and said I keep surprising her. Also love my neph who calls me a work in progress(she believes there is another AI laying in wait) and my derm who says I am very interesting.
There really are good docs out there. If someone has one who doesn't treat you right, move on.
