Hi everyone
Hope you've had a good weekend.
I'm a bit stressed at the moment. As I have written in previous posts, I have been having problems with severe itching for just over a month now.
I eventually saw my rheumatologist, who thinks that the itching is caused by the plasmoquine that I take.
(200mg 6 days a week).
He has had me stop the plasmoquine for 10 days and then call him to let him know how I'm doing. It has been 9 days so far and the itching is about 60% better and no longer unbearable all of the time.
What Im worried about is that if I stay off the plasmoquine until the itching stops completely will that not affect my joints and pain? I am already feeling achy and tired.
Once i begin the plasmoquine again, what if the itching starts again?
I'm really concerned it seems like im damned if i do and damned if i dont :(
Anyone had a similar experience to this?
Thank you for listening
Hi Purple,
Welcome. Do you have malaria?
purplegirl, I responded to you on another post, but yes, I have had the same thing happen to me with Plaquinel. Severe itching, welting rash. It took 60 mg Prednisone, topical steroids and about 2 weeks before it tamed down. Rheumy says he will not have me try it again. Wants to try Metho, but I don't want to because of the side effects. I tend to experience every side effect any medication can possibly have.
I take Aleve, along with Tylenol sometimes, to help the joint pain and inflammation (I have osteoarthritis). There are many supplements that help with energy levels, but with autoimmune diseases, it seems the fatigue is powerful.
Keep us updated on your progress, and hope you are feeling better.
