I saw my rheummy about a wk ago and started this generic med. Yep, got the spit right away! Yeah!
While lying in bed, I noticed my back was damp....had to change nightgowns 4 x that night. It taped off as the days increased.
But, what did not taper off was the WEAKNESS! Can't even stand up for very long. I checked my vitals after making a determined effect to scrub out a large bird bath, and could barely finish. I wasn't out there for more than 30 min and pushed through the fatigue and weakness. Had to take my shower sitting down as I couldn't stand up. Feel into bed and checked bp: 135/88 pulse 110. YIKES!!!
BP is normally low: 105/78, pulse 80.
Today I feel the same so I'm stopping this evoxac. maybe salagen will help. Is this the lemon flavored med?
I had a tearful pity party today and after seeing this drug could cause weakness, I have renewed hope that maybe it will get better.
Be AWARE if you are taking meds, a lot of your side effects could be med related. It happens to me with almost any new med.
And next month, doc wants to put me on Humira. I'm scared to death.
Tinker, that sounds really frightening. But maybe the Salagen will suit you better. I can't take either, because they can trigger asthma attacks, which I can't risk.
Keeping my fingers crossed that you will tolerate the Salagen.
Hugs

Sigh, Hi Tinker,
Yes, it's always something, and then it's something else.
Some one posted recently about taking Lisinopril for the HPB. I took it and developed a really unpleasant cough. I put up with it for months, and then when Googling around I came upon "The Lisinopril Cough" a well=known side effect of Lisinopril. So that was that. Fortunately other blood pressure medications were available, including the one I'd been on forever and a day and had had no problems with. I really did not understand why my cardiologist changed me in the first place.
I didn't know about the weakness side effect from Evoxac. I generally don't look at side effects until I have a reason. So often they are: constipation/diarrhea, sleepiness/sleeplessness, weight loss/weight gain, nausea, headaches, etc. Either contradictory side effects or things I have so often it would be hard to sort out. Then there are the rare and terrible side effects, like the list you sign off on when you go into surgery: This could kill you, just so you know!
But when you actually do have the negative side effect, it's good to catch it. And good when there's at least an alternative. You haven't tried Salagen? I've taken both, they both worked equally well, and I don't think I have any negative side effects. I do get a bit of drooling if I try to nap during the day which is when I take my larger dose of Salagen. And I've been sweating weirdly for years, but I really think that's more of an autonomic neuropathy problem than a side effect. It didn't set in until years after I started drugs for more saliva and tear film.
We are such challenges, Tinker, to ourselves and our doctors and families. Nothing is ever simple and straightforward for us.
such is life. I hope you find the help by switching to Salagen.
Glad you're on top of stuff.
Hugs, Elaine
Oh, I have friends on Humira and they're fine. And there are also alternatives, I can't think of the names right now, but the lady next to me during my Infusion on Friday was have an infusion once a month for two months, then another set of two 6 months later, and it was working fine for her RA.
Hang on. It's a bumpy ride, but you have good company here.
Tinker,
Can u just take the evoxac once daily versus the 3x? Sorry you're having these side effects .
I take humira...life saver...totally put me in remsion.... For the ra and helps the Sjogrens too...don't be afraid . Giv it a try. Praying it helps u.
HI Lori,
I am to take the med 3 x day. I may just try taking it at bedtime and keep the biotene rinse flowing all day.
My mouth is so dry I can't get to sleep. I liked that lemon flavored one but didn't take but one as I salivated sooooo much I had to spit. That was about 5 yrs. ago before the dryness got this bad.
Thanks everyone for the replies. Tinker
