I have often wondered how do Drs. cope with being in a specialty with patients with a chronic illness and all that entails?

I had a GP once who did very little physical examining, and seemed very remote. It was only when he left the practice that I found out he had MS. He had enough of his own to cope with, without having to hear all the patient problems. He was only probably mid 40's when he had to give up doctoring. I felt so bad for him.
I know this is not what the article is about, but it reminded me of that doctor.
