Title: Enough of "celebrities" !
Post by: Bucky on January 24, 2014, 01:36:59 PM
I don't know about you, but I am so sick of EVERY single week, many times a week, all you hear about on the news, on the magazine covers in the stores, on the talk shows, etc. is:

     -   Justin Bieber

      -  Kim Kardashian or her sisters or her mother

      -  Lindsay Lohan

I could care less about any of them!  Why can't people talk about celebrities who do good things, who give back to society, who share their talents and money with those less fortunate instead of glamorizing the lives of a handful of "celebrities" who are immature, are attention seekers, and reward bad behavior?

I think society puts WAY too much emphasis on celebrities.  What they are wearing, whose designer label it is, where they live, what events they are attending.  Have you ever noticed they have their "A List" and "B List" celebrities?  No wonder people judge each other and "label" each other.  Obviously, the celebrities think some are better than others because they are on certain "lists".  Who cares!!

Some of those dresses those gals wear, and pay big bucks for, are U-G-L-Y!!

Don't get me started on their ridiculous wages they get while the rest of us work our buns off to just keep our heads above water.

I am not a sports fan, but, I'm not against sports either - but, is it necessary that a football player, or basketball player make MILLIONS of dollars a season??  Who in their right mind can afford to buy tickets to the Super Bowl paying $2600 or over $6000 to sit mid field?  But you know what, people do, as the stands will be full!!  Shaking head . . . . what a waste of money to watch some grown men chase a ball around the field!!

No wonder young people want to grow up to be celebrities or athletes - they have visions of making the big bucks!

Okay, I better stop or I could go on and on.  I'm just tired of spoiled celebrities and hearing about them all the time.  (I some times wonder if they do things on purpose just to get their name out there?  I wouldn't doubt it.)

I thought this was the best response I've seen to the Bieber thing that just happened:

I totally agree!  And don't forgot about lovely Miley Cyrus (who if you look at Biebers mug shot, it could be Miley without makeup!).

I don't get it either.  What ever happened to there being consequences for your actions?

I totally agree...and on this point?

QuoteNo wonder young people want to grow up to be celebrities or athletes - they have visions of making the big bucks!

It's an illusion "sold" to our young people, a tragic one at that. The ones who make it to the "glamour" lifestyle pay a hefty "hidden cost" to get there. One that can't be measured in $$'s. My point being all that glitters isn't gold - only appears on the surface for these celebrities to be that way

QuoteShaking head . . . . what a waste of money to watch some grown men chase a ball around the field!!

That's exactly what puzzles me about GOLF.

I'm as sick of hearing about celebrities, and even more sickened that their "biz" is increasingly more headline news ad nauseum than any REAL news.

I won't get me started on the money rant.

As for the clothes? Does what they wear even quantify as clothing?

Yikes, Velcro - good catch on Miley and Biebers -

A little makeup, hair colour and a bit of latex here and there, they're almost identical. YIKES

I totally agree.

Even though I live 1000's of miles away from the US, we can't escape the Kardashians, Bieber, Lohan & Miley Cyrus news. Whole industries seem to be based around the act of "Celebrity" without the person actually doing anything really important.

Bieber visited Australia recently and was the worst behaved guest you'd ever seen. Not only did he show disrespect for his many fans by turning up hours late for his concerts, he even graffitied his VERY EXPENSIVE hotel. This latest incident proves he is just another criminal with NO respect for the law or others.

I hope his record label sacks him.

The only time I see the things you are referring to are on the magazine covers in the check out line.

I have NO CLUE who anyone is.  Once upon a time in 1950's land, up through maybe possibly 1965 land I sort of knew the mainstream things going on.  Of course there were streams I didn't even know existed...like R&B and jazz and so on.

Once upon a time in only three channels on the whole TV land, we knew The Hit Parade, and Ed Sullivan....

I stopped knowing anything that was going on somewhere in the 70's, and gave up entirely on music with Disco.  Well I did like the BeeGee's.  Then there was a bunch of stuff including punk and rap and a zillion other things, and I just gave up.

Entire sitcoms had 10 years of episodes and reunions even, and I'd never heard of them.

People have always had 'bread and circuses' to entertain them.  No talent or intelligence was required then, nor is it now.

There is someone, or there was someone called by a silly little name, who had something to do with the Jersey Shore.  See I don't even know the name.

There are some guys who make duck calls for hunters and they got really famous and I saw lots of T shirts and hats on people at Wal-Mart.  The one of them said something mean and now their stuff is all on sale!

In fact I rely upon my trips to Wal-mart to keep me half was aware that there's another world going on.

Snooky, I remember, she's called Snookie?  something like that, and she's plump? or was?

I do like to look into the horrible magazines while I'm in the check out line:  guess which star's fat bum this is in a bathing suit?  or guess whose horrible plastic surgery disaster this is?

The fascination of abomination it's called.  Like when you stare at a car wreck.

According to pop psychology, people like reality shows because of two things:

1) those people are even stupider than I am

and/or

2) those people aren't any smarter than I am.

A sort of touchstone for their own mediocrity.

I don't know.  My husband likes to watch TV.  I never do.  Not because I distain it, but I don't have the patience for it.

I'd rather read what YOU have to say, or a book for one of my three book clubs...or play Words with Friends.

But, I do feel that we all have that moment when we synch with popular culture, and then we grow up a bit and it begins to pass us by.

But some songs, products, movies, ideas can take me right back to my 'days of glory'.

I was faced with a you've got to be kidding moment yesterday when I went to read the news in the morning. The big headline was that Justin Bieber had been arrested.

Personally I can't tolerate all the celebrity attention seeking behavior and prefer to know what the real world is like. But, sensationalism sells papers and magazines.

Could not agree with you more. Priorities.....seem like they have just gone missing somewhere over time. I could go on a big long rant but I won't. Societal downfall can get me going....CK

I totally ignore these people. I see their faces and antics when I am forced to stand in long check out lines.

They are terrible role models. Their parents push them around like merchandise, a meal ticket, how sad.

Really, when I watch the news and they pop up a story about any of them, I see them and feel embarrassed

for them....they hunger for attention...."look at me, watch me".....then next week another one of them

tries to top the antics of the one the week before.

ANOTHER THING......all those complaints those celebs have about "stolen sex tapes"   and

complaints about photographers getting photos of them without their bathing suits on

Pleasssseeee......you don't mean it...you like it...you put yourself in those situations on purpose.

And they all have to make dramatic personal revelations to the media on private matters

and then the next week another celeb will tell a "personal secret tidbit" to top the story

of the celeb the week before.

NO CLASS!

It''s all a game for the celebrity, the fans and the press.

Each relies on the other to keep them going.

And so it goes.
